Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

if the guy wants to sell it,he should have no problem letting you take your head and guitar and trying out the cab...they were 400 bucks new..for 250...it should still be in very good condition...or i would pass...seems like a lot for a cab that you know he got for 80-100 bucks.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

You do make a good point. Take your head down and try it out. Finding youR sound is kind of like a journey. you may take wrong turns but it's all a learning experience. Clapton and van halen seem to have done just fine without message boards

Clapton and Vanhalen didnt troll for bargain basement gear. Yes I realize frankie was homemade but it was also Ed's vision of what he needed to get his sound. He knew exactly what he wanted he wasnt groping around in the dark hoping he found something.

You can call those "wrong turns" learning experience but it gets expensive pretty quick. Especially if your trying to do it on the cheap. It does you no good to buy a 250 dollar bottom line cab that you wind up wanting to upgrade or replace right away. Save your money and spend once. If the 250 dollar cab makes you wet then by all means buy it and be happy.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

^ Agreed.

Every wrong turn costs you money and time.

Each piece of bargain crap you buy pushes you even further away from ever having good equipment.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

Hell yea this is what I wanted to hear, I'm so sick of everything I want to by being not good enough lol.

Sorry dude but you come here asking if a bottom end cab is any good. Shouldnt be suprised when you get people that say no its not.

If your here asking I'm assuming that you care about your gear so most people here are going to try and steer you in a direction twords what they think is going to be best for you.

You've even been given some great suggestions in this thread. You were linked a marshall 1960 for 50 bucks more!

Instead it seems like you want people here to justify to you that a bottom end cab is good. Is it good enough? Maybe but that you have to decide for yoruself.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

nothing wrong with playing what you can afford for a while . these guys kicked my ass for the better part of 3 years ,because i was a s.s. amp user....in the end they were right...and i am a tube amp guy for life......i have never spent any quality time with an expensive name brand cab though....so it's kinda like i reallly dont know what i am missing...i can certainly do worse than the b-52 's i am using.....i hated my marshal mg half stack so bad ,that cab sounded awfull.

I've noticed this pattern in most/all of the OP's threads. He asks for advice, then only acknowledges those that are telling him what he wants to hear. Don't be surprised if he doesn't acknowledge your post.

OP: I understand why you want to go for the B-52. Believe me, as an unemployed student, I get it. My bank account has had eight cents in it for the past few weeks - I know what it's like to not have money.

But you can do way better than the B-52 for not much more money. Why didn't you acknowledge the craigslist ad for the Marshall someone found for you? For only $50 more, you have a HELL of a lot more for your money.

Maybe the reason that people say the things you want aren't good enough is because they kinda crap. Trust these people - they have far more experience than both of us combined.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

I appreciate all of your guys input, don't get me wrong but this way I get to make payments over time I'm dead broke as we speak and trust me if I could put down 300$ bones for that Marshall cab I would in a sec.... and when I said that the B 52 not being good enough I meant I wanted to hear both sides I mean I'd love to hear more people that have this B 52 fav and that have been playing them for a few years.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

dont worry about what we think of your stuff........the main thing is having something you like or can accept enough to use while you save for what you really want...the gear snobs mean well.and are giving you good advise..the trick is not to take it personal..i had to learn this.also. ....i wasted a bunch of money on s.s. gear that i was never happy with .......at least you will have something to play through while you save for what ever you think you need.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

My advice to you is GO PLAY THEM. There are a lot of different speakers out there, and there are a lot of different enclosures for them. If you want to try speakers, try finding several different Marshall cabs to play them through. That way, the cabinet portion of your experiment stays constant. If you want to try different cab sizes, try ones with the same speakers.

Figure out what you like. It's better to figure it out before you spend the money rather than after. You won't get everything perfect the first time, but you'll at least have a better idea of what you're after and what specific gear sounds like.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

Another vote for a 2x12. It's not as cool as a 4x12 but it's less money up front and much cheaper if you decide to upgrade the speakers.

My point was, before the internet people actually trusted their own ears and decisions and went with it. If he plays it and likes it let's stop flaming the kid for it. who here hasn't made a wrong turn even with expensive gear? Noone here has bought a Mesa and said "wow, i don't like this at all."? It happens. My suggestion was to use that money for a good 2x12. if he doesn't want to go that way and likes the B52 then that's that.

That's the thing about it. You're not going to find anyone that has been playing one for years. Most people got rid of them quickly.

Why would you buy a Nissan Frontier without test-driving a Ford F-150?

No one is saying the B-52 won't work for him. They're saying he's got his mind made up and won't listen to the suggestions given.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

Just waste your hard-earned $250 on the sh1t cab.

It's what you want to do.

You'd already made up your mind when you posted this thread. You just want people to make you feel good about the decision.

If you can't mow 3 lawns or something for the last measly fifty bucks to get a real cabinet, I don't know what to tell you. You deserve the B-52.

Hey, maybe you won't be able to tell the difference. Those folks are luckier in the long run anyway.

I'm not saying he shouldn't test drive all he can test drive. That's why i said people use to trust their ears and decisions. take that head down to GC and try a bunch out. That marshall cab listing was great and he should try that out as well as 2x12 avatar cabs. If, when all is said and done he decides to buy the B52 then F-it, no skin off my back.

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

I thought about it and I'm not going to get the b 52, I fond a Bugera 2x12 new for 200$

Re: B-52 Cabs! Whats the scoop?

Our other guitarist has a B-52 4x12 and it's pretty loose sounding and bassy if you're into that. It can get real loud too.

What kind of amp do you play?
