B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

Everyone remembers the infamous "least favorite guitar poll" here on this forum.... B.C. Rich was absolutely trashed. It seemed like nobody had a good thing to say about them.

Is there anyone here who actually likes B.C. Rich? And why? I can't help but notice the incredible number of metal players in the 80s who flocked to this company.

This raises an interesting question - What caused the quality to drop off so recently? If the Bronze series is so crappy (from my experience they are), are the Platinum and NJ series much better? Are there any really solid B.C. Rich lines right now? I can't imagine a company that produces only 100% pure, unadulterated crap.

Any thoughts?

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

Well i think the shape puts off alot. I have an old bronze series warlock. Its a reasonably solid player, sounds dull though. Its made of agathis and has some cheap blank humbuckers stock. Im keeping it because it plays solidly and it was my first guitar. Ill do cheap mods to squeeze what tone i can get out of it. Also will be pimped up:) Yet to decide how much effort ill put into it.

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

The mohogany neck thru NJ series is nice besides the trem, and any old or USA made rich tends to kick ass.

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I think it's mostly the shape that puts people off.

The ones I've tried played like they cost. IE, the $300 played like a $300 guitar, and the $1200 ones played like a $1200 guitar....

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I support them. I think that for the price, they're reasonable, the bronze series, that is. But, how many 150 dollar guitars actually deliver?

I'm planning on getting one just to put dual DMZ Super Distortions in.

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

i have a nj series 5 string warlock...........let me just say its an amazing bass. its shaped crazy so i wouldnt have just that bass because some songs its just not right to play em with :smack:

the ebony fretboard feels so good. the 2 sets of bc rich active p style pickups give it amazing tone and a great range too. i LOVE this bass.

the only thing is it weights like 16lbs..........but i use a 3" strap with thick padding and it feels like air :)

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I played a MIJ BC Rich that was shaped kind of in between a Double Cut LP and a PRS. It played nicely and sounded and looked the part. It was a mahogany body with a heck thru design and a maploe cap. It came with the stock BC Rich 'buckers, but I'm sure that with some quality pickups, it would be great.

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

As far as B.C. Rich goes, i've never played a good bronze series guitar. The Platnum are actually pretty good for the money, and the NJ series are a little bit better than those. the USA's are probably some of the best guitars you can buy for the money.

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

Big Fan of USA BC Rich ... If I didn't have other stuff on my wish list I'd be playing a USA Warlock fo' sho'

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I´m more or less with Prophet. I´d love to get a USA Warlock some day, maybe a seven-string Mockingbird as well. But other things just always seem to "shove themselves in front" ;)

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I use one everytime I put on my Lita Ford costume and do my "Kiss Me Deadly" act in the culdesac.

 Kiss me once.... Kiss me twice.....

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

ah the obtrusive shape, tell me about it...

but recently i've purchased an Ironbird from the Body Art series, it's not a boutique player but i'm very happy with it. tone-wise, it's rewarding at very high gain settigns, that default humbucker is kinda amazing at this price. however it's nothing to crow about, really. but i got a steal nevertheless...

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I got my NJ Warlock for $280 because I was a bassist who wanted to learn guitar...really great guitar for the money, right now it's my "chunk chunk thrash" guitar...dunno what pickups would sound good in it tho, the website said the body was made of chesswood...what is that?

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I've GAS'ed for a US Bich since before a lot of you were born. ;)

That said, a lot of the Rich imports are...uh...disappointing. Even some of the Platinum ones I played were not worth the $$$ IMO. :(

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I just think BC Rich has gone downhill faster than an avalanche. I'm sure their USA series makes great guitars, but their name is already tarnished from their crappy, crappy, imports.

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

I'm kind of split on the B.C. Rich. I have a friend who got the Kerry King V and it sounds good on his Crate with full dirt and kind wonky clean, but does the sounds he uses. He's a big Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth fan. I hooked it up to my GNX3 and ran some Rectified settings and did some recording and then ran the end product thru some tube amp modelling on Amplitube during mixing. I used three different cab models and the end result sound pretty good. The tones are there, you just need to know how to bring them out. The pickups had plenty of growl to them. But that's the only model I played personally. But I have seen other models on the shelf. From the factory, the action is set way too high on those monkies. And if you set it low where it should be you get lots of buzz on the fretboard. Adjusting the pickups is a chore cause the screws stripped easily. Other than that, I got some kickarse tones out of it during recording, and now if I didn't hear him play that guitar on stage it would be missing something. I'm kind of used to the tone. And by the by. I recorded the same songs in a pro studio with a $3000 Les Paul Standard model. And it came out sounding like crap. So guitars and pickups are half the battle. Knowing how to bring out the best of what you are playing into is the other half.

Re: B.C. Rich - any supporters at all?

BC Rich guitars play a lot like some of the thinline Gibbys for me. I really like the early models, especially the Warlocks & Bichs. They seemed to lose a lot of quality though, when they went to Jackson to manufacture them. I don't know why, but it seemed like the original Bernie Rico workmanship just wasn't having any say.

I love those old 70's USA Richs.
Absolutely. The other guitarist in a former band of mine had 2 ~late 70's early 80's I believe, USA, neck thru Bichs. Excellent guitars.
