i tried one of these little $500 tube amps and all i can say is that i'm blown away! sounds soooooo good and smooth. what's the deal with these amps? why aren't they more popular? at the price they sell them for, why not?

Re: b52 tube amps

They are one hell of an amp. I had one of the AT-100 heads for some time, but could never mesh with it. I'm had too much trouble dialing it in, but it still sounded awesome.

I was pleasantly surprised by the clean channel. That alone made me keep it an additional 3 months.

Re: b52 tube amps

good thing you started this thread because i was wondering the same thing. i have yet to play it but i heard they are the cheap man's mesa.

Re: b52 tube amps

Best cleans ive heard on a budget tube amp headof its kind...kinda bassman-ish...

the lead tones i found kinda hard to get what i wanted and it can be fizzy/buzzy...

but a great sounding amp if you can find a deal...thought ive heard horror stores about quality...but i see plenty of good used examples locally...

I however left with my YCV80 used for $320 out the door at GC...

Re: b52 tube amps

yeah, the at-100s are cool amps for the price.

B-52 has a monster 4 channel high gain amp in the works too, so keep and eye and ear out for that one

Re: b52 tube amps

hell i wouldn't use the distorion. i would just run my effects pedal through it. i tried it with the line6 uber metal and all i can say is wow!

Re: b52 tube amps

B52 is a newish up-and-coming amp maker, that is putting a lot of value into its new amps. There are some reliability peculiarities from what I have heard, so be advised that shipping an amp across the USA is not cheap, and multiple repairs for any amp are a piss-off. Last time checked, they were based in SoCal, so a trip from the desert would not have been a big deal breaker for me.

I was looking at a B-52 a while back, but settled on my used Mesa .50 Cal +. This Mesa can be had all day long for $500 on Ebay, in either a 50 watt head, or combo.

Re: b52 tube amps

thanks for the tip. i guess they need to be tried and tested before they get embraced by the market.
