Babicz Tremolos On A MIM Strat, Anyone Try Them???

The tremolo on my newest Mexi-Strat, well, it sucks! Even as far as stock Big Block Tremolos go, it really sounds bad, buzzy & it doesn't sustain very well? Literally to the point it's almost unbearable! A lot of the sustain issues I was having was comming from the nut, the B string was especially awful! Sounded kinda like a banjo string when I let it ring open!!! Anyway, a lil 220 sandpaper took care of the worst of that. Now it's better but still not as nice as my other MIM's, I've actually gotten pretty lucky as far as they go? So I'm thinking about picking up a Babicz FCH Full Contact Strat Tremelo, the whole thing, not just the saddles, & I was hoping someone here has some experience with them? If you do please let me know what you think.....

Worth a try, but don't toss the old one 'til you're sure it made the difference.

Sometimes, guitars are just thudders.

My vote is for a Supervee Bladerunner if it matters. I was planning on doing a review FWIW soon. It just slays everything else I've tried, as far as sustain, range of use, tuning stability, and feel.

The Supervee's are awesome but I can't seem to be able to find anyone who's selling them? There website wasn't very helpful, any ideas???

Had the super vee for 1 week and sent it back. Was not a fan. I got a the mim spec callaham bridge. Best thing for a strat bridge. Machine quality is unsurpassed and the fit and finish is flawless. Arm is smooth and secure with no wobble. Best vintage trem.

-1 to the guy above me ...if that's a thing. But seriously, the supervee is out of this world! It added a very noticeable amount of sustain to my guitar. You can find them easy on Ebay or amazon, plenty of sellers.

EDIT: I bought the last vintage mount one on ebay actually now that I looked. But here's on amazon:

I guess I just didn't like the feel of it. It works well as it is advertised but for some reason I didn't like the added stiffness of the leaf spring. I keep my trems floating and I like them to be very responsive to small amounts of arm moment. The stiffness of the super vee just wasn't for me and I felt that I preferred the traditional vintage 6 bolt setup.

Hmmm. See, I might like that (though I'll also freely admit the two smoothest tremolos I've ever played with were a Kahler, and an early Trev Wilkinson...)

I have encountered that on more than on one ocation and the problem was in the nut. If that is the case even the best bridge will sound the same. Try a new bone bridge first, it will be great mate for your new trem too. If you've never made a nut have a tec do one, they're worth it, made for your ax.

! Anyway, a lil 220 sandpaper took care of the worst of that.

Hoe did you use the 220?

Sounds to me like you just need a good setup. Make sure all your saddles are properly parallel to the bridge plate. Also, make sure that none of the intonation screw springs are too short and rattling.

Can you take a good, clear close up view of the bridge as if you were Ant-Man standing on top of the neck pickup? LOL

Fair enough dude (: Depending on the setup/springs, I agree that it is slightly stiffer than other brands.

I've been thinking about getting a bladerunner but some things about it are unclear to me. Does it feel and function like a floating trem? I don't need much up tilt, but my vibrato style is basically lightly "shaking" the bar, a la David Gilmour. Is the same type of response possible, or is it "down only" like a decked trem? Thanks for any help.

Sorry for the hijack, it will stay brief! I have mine set up so that I can get a whole step pulling up on it. So, completely possible. There are plenty of videos where the person pulls up on it and uses it like you want to. A James Ryan youtube review comes to mind.

Those actually are pretty cool. Got to try one on a Maple Board Strat at MGR and I was surprised at how smooth it was and how well it stayed in tune. I'd still pick a Floyd Original first and foremost but for non-locking it was nice.
