Back from a 4-5 month guitar hiatus..with a NAD..

More Hutchings/Ironheart goodness...

Man..dude's from another planet ..& that tone...

The best part about this amp is you don't need pedals ....

It already has just the right feel & fluidness & tone...

Now I know where I recognize that amp!
Killswitch Engage!!
is this it in this video?

Seems like when I saw them last, they were playing Kempers

This amp has never been on my radar before now. I'm really liking your tones man. And your chops as well!
very cool, I will have to look into this Laney

Thanks man!...yeah, this is pretty underrated amp for the tones it produces ...it flies under the radar quite a bit.

As for Killswitch Engage... apparently they use Ironhearts (or used to) ...though they 're not a band that I'm really familiar with myself tbh.. That looks like it might be an Iommi sig (TI 100) in the screenshot you posted though..'cause of the white knobs (which according to Iommi was a tweaked Ironheart with some changes he wanted made to it)

But yeah at least one of the Killswitch Engage guys does/did use Ironhearts...

A short sloppy Doom rhythm clip (Ironman Riff) from the DI out again... 'cuz doom is what I will be primarily using this amp for :bigthumb:

My bass playing is especially atrocious..sorry about that :p

First on the lead Channel, then rhythm ..then both together (double tracked) & finally with the bass (which I also plugged in to the Ironheart for convenience - but with a bass cab IR)...

Also ..it's really hard to get a bad/unusable tone out of this thing...sounds great whereever I have the knobs at. So no endless tweaking for tones. That's a huge plus for me...

Feel you on this. That's one thing I hate about Boogies while they can sound really nice when set up right they can also sound like utter poo at the twist of a knob. That was one of the tihngs that attracted me to my PRS Archon. Just start at noon on every thing and tweak a little from there and it's going to sound great.
The Ironheart is a solid amp looked hard at a couple of 60's and like them a lot. Owned several Laneys over the years they are very solid amps. Congrats on the new rig and some inspiration from it!

I sold my MkV -it was a great amp, and ultra versatile -but it didnt really make enough mojo on it's own -A/B testing in the studio showed that it didnt have a ton of personality compared to my other favs...

Yeah the Archon Clips you've posted have always sounded great. I've never had the chance to play or even see one here though... ;(

I do like the smaller Metal head though. I played around w/ one a couple years ago and it's a cool little amp.

I dont like having to fight with an amp (or any gear for that matter) to get usable tones.Prefer to get on with the playing than endless tweaking :bigthumb:

@ negative ease.I always assumed an amp like the mark v would be easy to dial in for great tones (and it def has those in spades) somehow...I know recto's can be a bit tricky..though I love their sound..

Anyway, There's one last trick up the Ironheart's sleeve that gives me yet another opportunity for a shredding little video/demo...and that's the push-pull EQ.

The change is pretty subtle it's not night and day but it does affect the tone all the same...

Pulling the bass EQ knob adds a slight bass boost more saturation/compression (great for tapping ) though the amp is great for tapping anyway, or I would'nt have bought it :p

Pulling the mid adds a more vowelly-"aww" kinda charecteristic to the sound..

And pulling the treble one kinda rounds out the top end (great for thin sounding single coils)

My guitar was tuned a bit flat here (well, it was a bit out of tune)..but I had the mid & treble EQ knobs pulled for this...

This was w/ the switch between the bridge humbucker, (Lace Deathbucker) & middle single (Rose Mariposa) same as the clip above & same EQ ...with only the bass EQ knob pulled...not the other two...

Yeah, I'm just having some fun now..it feels good to get the old fingers moving again

Can't manage more than 15 or 20 mins a day though...at least till the calluses are back...

EDIT: Just realized I still had the bass (8x10) cab IR loaded on the Mooer Radar for this one that I used for the Ironman clip..probably for the clip before this too :p

How are the cleans? I remember my Laney being very full and glassy with the clean settings.

The cleans are lovely and pretty much as you described but I'll be honest I've barely checked out the clean channel.. :p

My fave channel is the rhythm channel which has almost the same gain available as the "Lead" one but a more "vintage-like"/70's/ 80's)touch to it's tones while "Lead" is more modern...

Here's a vid where I'm pretty much just changing EQ/push pull settings as I'm playing (Rhythm channel) an wherever the EQ knobs (ranging from everything dimed to nearly the opposite) are set at the tones are at least usable and mostly very nice...

Tht's one of the things i really love about this amp as I mentioned before :bigway:

well, why not..

Here's the clean on the neck pup (pushed with the onboard boost and cranked power soak)..it's actually pretty tough to get any breakup on the clean channel cuz of the high headroom..but I managed :D

..Followed by a solo on the rhythm channel w/ the same EQ (clean and rhythm have shared EQ on the amp..so just a flick of the switch and neck to bridge on the guitar)

Too lazy to change the backing track (same as above) :p

Similar solo w/ all the same settings on the LEAD channel ..but w/ the boost switch ON :bigthumb:

I always prefer to have the boost engaged for pretty much everything, but especially on this channel....it sounds awesome.

A (sloppier than usual) demo of the mysterious "Tone" knob. I've heard that it's a "presence" control but to me it sounds like more than that. Like the "global EQ" on my modeler or similar ...in that it shifts the entire tone spectrum of the amp up or down (making it darker/brighter overall) and does'nt just affect the top end sparkle like a presence knob...but eh ..who knows? :laugh2:

Personally I think the amp sounds best with it set between 10 o'clock - 3:00 o'clock. That's where the mojo happens :bigthumb:

^^ I meant my Zoom G5n modeler. It has a similar global "Tone knob" just before the output that does pretty much the same thing...
