Back from the dead -- Bumbox back in the house!

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
My Bumbox Cielo blew up some time ago, but I didn't have the chance to have any work done on it until recently. My old friend, and brilliant amp tech, Eric Bradley, did the work. Turns out the power tranny had blown and after trying a few different ones, settled on a Mercury Magnetics. Also did a cap upgrade whilst we had the chance. Fresh valves. Sounds BEASTLY now! :)

Sonically, it sounds like a JMP with reverb. It has a bit more low frequency push and is not quite as bright. Carrying it home was NOT fun; the amp weighs nearly 50 lbs!

Woulda been even heavier with the safety mesh fitted.

thats a sweet ass amp! glad you got it up and running again

Sweet!

(Next obvious step...clips! :D)
LOL!

I will be using this amp on my next round of recordings, so there will be PLENTY of audio examples coming up. :)

The plan is to track it the same way I use it live: Studio 2 on one side, Bumbox on the other ...

Thanks; it really is a killer amp, especially if you are fond of early Rush ... the Cielo nails the tone from the first few Rush albums (S/T - Farewell To Kings).

Awesome little monster right there! I've always been jealous of you for that one.

Glad its up and running...so essentially It sounds like an early smallbox 50? (1987)

I came real close to buying one of his 1w amps. But lead times were pretty severe. I assume he went out of business?
