Back On The Electric !

About a month ago , I got a call from my old band asking me if I wanted to come back to the fold. They got rid of the " Cancer " that forced me to leave in the first place and guaranteed it would never return. I ended up buying this 2002 Squier Affinity Strat , which came with a Fender hardshell case and MIM 2005 Fender Strat pickups in it, for the low price of only $100.00 from some cat on Craig's List. This has some mojo to it for a Squier and sounds pretty damn good. I like the thinner neck and the pups have some great tone to them. I also got a mid 90's , USA made, Fender Roc-Pro 700 amp which totally kicks major ass as well, which I'll post on the amp section.

More attitude, less gear. Rock hard my friend!

If you can't do the job with that, you can't do the job.

(That said…I assume this is a temporary thing until an American Strat and a Blackstar amp shows up….)

I don't know, Bob. This may not be what many refer to when they say "rock", but the tone is way more than adequate:

Great! Good to see more people rocking Squiers. Do a lot of more expensive guitars sound better to my ears? Yes! But will a squier get the job done at the end of they day? If your hands are apt to make the music, and your amp is dialed in, and you shoot for the right tone for the song, then EMPHATIC YES, Squiers are certainly capable.
The MIM pickups are not the worst in the world, you can get some real mileage out of the neck pickup.

Good for you OP, that's a nice axe. I play a Squier Strat myself, though I've owned several US Strats as well. Hard to go wrong with modern lower priced guitars, they can play and sound great. 98% of tone is in the hands anyway.. :)

Re: Back On The Electric !

My very first amp was a Fender Roc-Pro 1000. Unfortunately, no one told me it was a hybrid and had a pre-amp tube in it. That tube was microphonic, and the gain channel was completely unusable. (We are talking major squealing.) All I needed to do was change the stupid tube, and I had no idea. Now a days, we have this forum for things like that. I really wish the forum was around back then. I ended up trading the amp for a different one.

But have fun with everything. I've seen guys make great music on much worse equipment. One of my favorite guitars is a Squier Partscaster. Have fun with the band.
