Re: Back to Duncans in the 6 String!

Highs sound a little shrill to me but rhythm tone is winnar.

It's not fair how much more realistic leads sound with the pod then the vamp though. Must... have...

You big jerk. Way to rub your superior metal tone awesomeness all in my face :laugh2:

On an unrelated note I think my band may now have a bassist, so I'm gonna have to improve my tone somehow if I expect to hear myself!

Re: Back to Duncans in the 6 String!

yah, I GUESS IT´S A LITTLE BRIGHT too
but it can be the pod settings.

so.. UNHOLY JEFF.you give up on the emgs for 6 strings?

Yes. The 81 didn't have enough balls for me in the low end, and the 85 wasn't articulate enough. I need an 83! That's what my 707's are, and they're perfect. I'm sticking with the Custom... I like the low end growl of the 707's better, but I'm not quite sure on routing the 6 string out for them just yet.

Re: Back to Duncans in the 6 String!

I think the "harsh" high end is really the POD...I love them direct for chording and riffing but they ALWAYS sound shrill and gltichy for leads, IMO..thats where they falter...

Custom sounds great bro. It's my fave hard rock +, Duncan...I've had em in quite a few guitars...

You want some serious metal chunk? put one in an Explorer....ebony board, rosewood board..doesn't matter...that's just a perfect tight riffing/chugga chugga combo.

Re: Back to Duncans in the 6 String!

Did you ever get around to trying the Steve's Special pickup?

Re: Back to Duncans in the 6 String!

You're making me want to swap out my Invader for a custom even more.

Rock On Bro!

Re: Back to Duncans in the 6 String!

I actually don't think the high end is harsh at all; but to each his own.

Nope; I have a feeling it'd be way too scooped for me, anyhow.

Jeff, it sounds quite crushing in this Mahogany body/set maple neck Schecter; I can only imagine it in a nice slab like an Explorer or Les Paul.

I've got another clip with the leads sounding much better, check it out!

Re: Back to Duncans in the 6 String!

sounds just like the pantera tune ........just fatter !!!
i see you scooped the mids on the gain channel of the pod to get that dimebag sound.
which amp model was that?
or am i wrong?
maybe thats the perception of bright highs.

I always scoop my mids a bit. I've since updated the settings, though. I've gotten better tones out of it. This was a Dual Recto model.

WFD; the song isn't incomplete. I did the intro, the little slide bit, and back to the intro which ended with a little B-G-F#-E chord thing to end it. I think the version I uploaded may have had silence on the end do to a bad setting when I mixed it down to MP3 from Nuendo, but the file is not incomplete. The actual playing bit is only about 30 seconds long, IIRC. Also, I don't think the drums or slide riff are right; I did it by memory.
