Back to single coils...maybe

About a year ago I found a great deal on a set of hot rodded humbuckers and changed out the stock ceramic single coils on my strat for this set. I bought a nice wiring kit that allows offers Position 1 Bridge humbucker, pos. 2 bridge and neck split, pos. three bridge and neck humbucker, pos. 4 neck split, position 5 neck humbucker. The wiring also alows for a variety of capacitors with just the flip of a dip switch. Right now I am using a .010 cap on the neck and .022 on the bridge. I play thru a Fender Blues Jr NOS Tweed that I have modded to some degree using BillM parts. I have one distortion pedal, but don't use it. I can get a full overdrive and distortion using my volume controls. That's my rig... I would like to get more sparkle out of the neck and considering going back to single coils, possibly an SSL-2. It's a small gripe becouase I love the versatility of what I have, and the overtones and bloom of sound. But...there's alway a but. I miss a little bit of the clarity and spank. I remember those sinlge coils sounding thin. But I hear some people play single coils and they have a real rich pianoish type sound. I play at home by myself and enjoy "full " sounding guitar. I don't need to cut through a mix. I play acoustic and like the woody full and rich tones. Any suggestions? My favorite genres are blues and jazz. Part of me says just buy them and try them out for a while , because that's the onlly reall way to find out

Thanks for your input.

Re: Back to single coils...maybe

You can get tappable SSL-4 or SSL-5, and with a push pull you can get sugar and protein out of the same pickup. One push pull can tap two pickups at once, so having a push pull tap the neck and middle simultaneously would be pretty functional. If you want to get exotic, you can use a dual gang pot and variably tap the pickup, getting you all the sounds between tapped and full, but you'd have to sacrifice a tone knob to do that.
