Bad Bob Boost Vs. Barber Launch Pad

I can't decide between the Bad Bob Boost and the Barber Launch Pad!

I'm gonna be using it as a solo boost, last in the chain, right before the amp.

They're about the same price, so it's just down to which is a better boost...

...any thoughts?

Re: Bad Bob Boost Vs. Barber Launch Pad

I haven't heard the Launchpad, but the Bad Bob Booster is really fine. It has plenty of boost on tap, excellent true-bypass switching, and is very quiet. Although it is a full range boost, I think it adds a bit of brightness or presence. Since I favor Teles through fairly bright amps, this was a concern at first. However, after using it for a few days it became clear that the presence boost actually made the guitar tone control more useful. It's tempting to leave this thing on full-time.

I haven't heard that Barber pedal, but I can tell you that I agree with Kelsey 110% re the BBB. Great pedal. I agree that it adds presence, in a very, very good way. It's one of those things that makes you want to leave it on all the time.

On units that I have no experience with, I usually read all the harmony reviews, then pay closest attention to the words of the more experienced reviewers.
Another thing I see a lot of guys doing, since we can't hear everything, is to simply buy whatever you see, and keep moving them around till you find the one that nails what you're looking for. I did that for awhile with OD/clean boost pedals, and formed my own conclusions. I like the Klon and Banzaieffects.com the best. There's a lot of other good ones out there I'd love to try, like the Landgraff, H.B.E., and a few others.

Re: Bad Bob Boost Vs. Barber Launch Pad

Well I ordered my RGW Bad Bob Boost from ToneFactor.com last Thursday (3rd) and it arrived to me here in UK this morning! What speedy delivery!!

Brad & Jess @ Tonefactor even put in a packet of assorted sweets (candy) and a thank you note!! Wow!! What nice people!! :)

...As for the BBB, I only had time for a quick play before work but so far, sooo good!! The boost knob range is huge but sooo smooth - It's easy to dial in just the right level.

It adds slight grit and presence which, at first, I was unsure of. Until, that is, I turned it off and suddenly realised what I was missing!! Dang man!! :smack: I'm gonna have to get another one of these babys to use as a boost and leave this one on ALLLL the time! :laugh2:

That's exactly it!!!! The BBB is also great if you need to play quietly but still want to have some beef. Great if you are recording in your house and want to get your tone to breathe a little bit but don't want to sleep on the couch for a couple of days. :)

Re: Bad Bob Boost Vs. Barber Launch Pad

Glad you like it. It is the sort of thing that should come in pairs -- one for the beginning of the signal chain and one for the end -- one on full-time for presence and one in reserve as a boost. I ordered mine from Tonefactor, too, but I haven't tried the candy yet. Very good folks to deal with.
