My office gave me a retirement party yesterday and $100 with instructions to spend it on music.

I've been trying to think of something in that price range that I could use - and if you've been reading any of my recent posts you know I'm a little disappointed with my Cry Baby lately.

I've played a Bad Horsie and like it - but I've heard good things about the Weeping Demon - I'm really attracted by the all the fine tuning controls - and as someone here once said, it would be cool to play a weeping demon in church! :omg:

So... I was wondering if you guys could step in here and give me your opinions on these two wahs - or if you feel strongly about another one, let me have it - but keep in mind that I have $100 (plus or minus) to work with.

Thanks

Re: Bad Horsie vs Weeping Demon

I own the Demon and have for quite awhile now.

It's one of the few pedals that still gives me that "wow" factor when I play it.

As you mentioned, it's VERY customizable. I like this as it's something I can tweak for different guitars and amps and situations. Previously I would find that a pedal would work well in one setup but if something changed it wouldn't really have the same effect.

Honestly, it stopped me cold from throwing a few bills at a high-end boutique Wah.

Re: Bad Horsie vs Weeping Demon

I have a Bad Horsie II, and I have no complaints at all. It has some adjustment for playing around with other wah frequencies, but I rarely use it. It sounds great at its defaults, operates flawlessly, and has never given me any trouble. It works just as well with a Strat, a Jackson, and a Parker.

I am sure the Ibanez is a great unit also. I can just can't bring myself to buy something called a "Weeping Demon", I am too old for that.

Either one will be cool. I had the Bad Horsie in a church rig and I swapped it for the Mark Tremonti. The BH has a lot of it's range in the high end. Higher than I liked to go for church tunes. It's good for the solo shredder but I found that for church tunes there was a lot of wasted wah at the top end of the pedal for me. If you have a dark amp or dark tone overall it could be fine. But I would suggest the Ibanez from a versatility standpoint. In switching to the Tremonti I gave up top end. I like the tone a bit better than the WD, but the WD would be more functional in the long run. Of course I have my old modded Crybaby in the arsenal too.

Interesting... the poll showed the Bad Horsie a clear winner, but from the replies, it looks like the Weeping Demon wins.

Since a friend has a Bad Horsie that he said I could borrow any time, maybe the Demon would be the way to go. I'm really drawn by all the control features.

Re: Bad Horsie vs Weeping Demon

But my vote counts double, so that's 4:3 WD:BH

If for no other reason, the fact that you can CHOOSE to use the auto-on feature or the on/off switch swings the vote.

I play songs that one feature is better, and other songs that that OTHER feature is better. Now I can choose.

For example, if you want the wah on as a "tone-filter," you'd have to keep your foot on the BH, AND NOT MOVE IT. Nome sayin'?

Re: Bad Horsie vs Weeping Demon

switchless...bad horsiem I love its subtleness,,, you can tweak the BH I have a PDF file sent to me by a tech at morley, you have to pop it open but its a simple trim pot inside, also alot of people dont know that you can also shut off the delay/...PM me with your email if interested.

Re: Bad Horsie vs Weeping Demon

Demon all the way!
You can tweak everything on it!It can sound really agressive or mellow ,switchless oder classic .You can even change the frequency center ,wich is a cool fine tuning ability.I am really happy with it.It's a big ,heavy thing. But with great feutures ,good design , and small but great ideas like the battery compartement ,there is no real competition.Maybe the Crybaby from hell....
The Vai wah is really cool ,but too loud.the noise level was too high for my tastes!

Re: Bad Horsie vs Weeping Demon

Thanks everyone for your input...

I bought the Weeping Demon last night... I haven't plugged it in yet (I didn't get home until 10:00 and needed to go to bed).

I read through the instructions and I think I made the right choice. Functionally it can be set up to work the same as the Bad Horsie - or it can work in a more conventional manner. I think the versatility is the biggest selling point here. And since I can adjust the contour in so many ways, I'm sure I can make it sound the way I want.

Plus with all the discounts they were offering me, I got it for $77.

Thanks again

Okay, here's what happened... a few weeks ago Guitar Center sent me letter saying that because I was a "preferred" customer I could get 10% off any purchase through the end of June. I knew my retirement party was coming and I suspected I would get some money - so I was holding off.

After I knew what I had to work with I started doing the research. That's when I started this thread. Interestingly enough, just as I was reading your responses - Guitar Center called me here at the office and told me that if I came in before the Saturday, I would get an additional 10% off. So I asked if they had the pedal, they did, and I said I would be there that evening. I got the manager, and he worked his magic and I ended up with more than the 10% plus 10% (original price was $99).

I'm still not a big fan of GC, but there is no way any other store could come close to $77.
