Well I bought a Digitech Bad Monkey overdrive pedal this weekend and I love it. Thank you to AESTUS for posting about them. I never would have considered one otherwise. In fact I've seen them at shops and thought the name was cool but didn't even try one because it's Digitech.
I'm using it as a clean boost. I set the Bad Monkey with the gain low and volume high. My THD Univalve actually loves this pedal. I can't believe it. I have always had a tough time getting good tone out of my Univalve at low volumes. Now on the roll channel I'm getting the best low volume clean tone I've had. The Bad Monkey just fills out the sound, it doesn't change the tone much, it just enhances it. I don't lose any harmonics. It's just great. I finally can use my Univalve at home.
I didn't love it with the gain up, but I'll have to fool around with it some more. It didn't like my Bad Cat Mini Cat as much. But I haven't really tweaked it much with the Bad Cat, I was just enjoying it with the Univalve too much to feel like tweaking.
I even recorded a bit with the pedal only. It has an output to mixer for going direct to the board with cabinet simulation. But I couln't run it to the amp and the board at the same time without a ton of noise, so I don't think you can do both at the same time. And I have to say for a direct recording, it's not half bad. This is a good pedal. The Univalve and Bad Cat hated my TS-9 and my BD-2. The Bad Monkey Rocks and it's only $40. On top of that, it's quiet. :smack:
