Baker Guitars???

I went to my local Guitar Center with the intention on dropping 189.99 on a set of strat pickpus.... but browsed at the guitars, and saw a Baker B-1 with a Kahler for $199.99.

It HAS to be imported for that price... but honestly the guitar played nice, had grover tuners, coil taps, and unplugged sounded ok for being out of tune and having dead ass strings... sounded kinda lively even.

Is this guitar worth it? I mean... 10 extra bucks gets a guitar instead of pickups I may swap back out anyway lol... the kahler has to be worth half that lol.

I know it's an ed roman guitar... and I know he's a leprechaun.

I'd jump on it right now. I have one with the Tone Pros stop tail. Those are Ed Roman Bakers and they're made in Korea. I think they all have the Buzz Fieten compesated nut, He sells them for over a grand and some of them have the SD BlackBack pickups. For $200 you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal. If you don't get it give me the GC number and I'll buy it.

Re: Baker Guitars???

As Dr. K said, snag it.

I found one used at a Sam Ash once, it was the Korean made, Ed Roman made model. Ed Roman bought Baker guitars at auction, including the name, and produced budget Korean made models for about 1000, whereas the original, Gene Baker made American ones cost at least $3500.

That being said, the quality, fit and tone is as good as a $800 Korean made schecter diamond series. It felt exactly like a Schecter, so maybe they're made in the same Korean factory.

They don't compare to the original made in USA Bakers, but for $200 It easily be beats any import up to $900.

Re: Baker Guitars???

Yeah... I don't expect it to beat my gibson explorer... but for 200 bucks a new flavor will be nice to have around. Hell, I spent that much just for the used WCRs in my explorer now... Felt nice and sounded good unplugged. Into a fender hotrod it wasn't great on the gain side... but I have a PG laying around for the bridge if necessary. I would prefer a stop tail piece, but for the price, I won't complain.

Re: Baker Guitars???

Yeah, get it. Baker is even a friend of Seymour's, as far as I know.

It's a company that started as a boutique high end guitar builder, and then of course branched off onto imports. That Roman Baker is the equivalent of the PRS SE.....probably better, for what it's worth.

For $200, it's a no brainer. Don't wait another minute.

+1....

I remember when Gene Baker made a Robben Ford model. man, I wanted one of those bad...

Re: Baker Guitars???

Korean Bakers? when the hell did THAT happen?!?!?!?!?!

The story is while Gene Baker is a brilliant, small, boutique, guitar maker, finances were not good with the company. He put the company up as collateral to obtain loans, and when the payments could not be met, the entire Baker company- name, trademarks, etc.., went up for Auction. This was many years ago.

I believe there were 2 entities that were the chief bidders on the company, Ernie Ball/Music Man and Ed Roman. Ed Roman outbid EB/MM, and now owns the company.

Bakers were once ultra high end guitars, very expensive and quality supposedly beyond PRS. When Ed Roman bought the company, he pledged to make a high quality import version that was affordable. This was blastphamy to Baker guitar owners. You can still get a USA made Baker, but it's not made by Gene Baker, it's made by some luthiers Ed Roman has.

Again, it's a great guitar for around $800. But it cant compare with the original.

Also, if you can snag it, the Kahler was a $350 option.

****** I just did a search. Gene Baker is now building guitars under the "B3" brand. They're pretty rare, I don't see many dealers stocking them, they appear to be custom order

I'm going to go snag it in a few. I figure I can't go wrong. I'm not too thrilled bout the khaler, looks complicated... but for the price of some pickups... I can't complain.

Re: Baker Guitars???

pics and review!!??

Tremendous deal!! Cool thing about a Kahler is they are less intrusive than a floyd. dont wanna use it? dont put the arm in. They dont fluctuate when you rest your palm on like a floyd would
