Balance problems

Hi, I ve a problem with a pair of SD Custom Shop Antiq A2
in a Orville LesPaul.
Neck measures 7,8K at the guitar cable plugged in
Bridge measures 8,4K at the guitar cable plugged in
both with silver cap.
There is a huge difference between Neck and Bridge the Bridge is such
weaker as the Neck. And I have lowered Neck to 5mm below E string
and raised Bridge until -2mm space between the screws and the strings.

Former I had the PG Neck in the neck pos und the difference was smaller to my memory.

Any clues or the same experience.
BTW the neck is phenomenal - the bridge has a nice warm tone, too.

Re: Balance problems

you sure you wired em up right? Or do antiquities even come in 4 conductor?

Either way, check the grounds & all that

Re: Balance problems

I've found most of the perceived volume difference between neck and bridge when using vintage humbuckers is the low end. Turning down the bass on the amp cleans up the neck pickup without appreciably brightening the bridge, as it doesn't have much bass any which way. This of course, may not work for you, but it's worth a try.

Re: Balance problems

well I lowered the neck PU radically and this helps a little.
strangely the lowered PGNeck was not such notably louder after.

I guess the 2 wired braided leads are soldered well - as I measured at the guitarcable ca 8.4K and the Neck ca 7.8K;
Maybe this is the price to pay for a true vintage PU in Bridge.
the Bridge lacks lows/bass compared to a SH-1B.

Interessting how beefy and shiny the CS-Ant-Neck is - for me sounds heavenly!
It tops the PG Neck which I preferred over the SH1-N !

thanks for more input - I wd like to put the CS-ANT Bridge into a semi hollow
Duesenberg ES335ish axe.
Any experiences with ANTs in semis?
thanks guys-

Re: Balance problems

you may want a stronger magnet in the bridge, a softened alnico 5 might be just right for you

Re: Balance problems

In the bridge, I use A8's instead of A2's, to get more output, tighter lows, and better cut, while preserving the strong mids. I also use A4's in the bridge (output is somewhere inbetween an A8 & A2) for a balanced EQ (A4's are wamer than an A5 & a little brighter than an A2). They correct the potential downsides of an A2. The A8 may no longer be exact "PAF", but it should solve your balance problem.

Re: Balance problems

well I know you preach magnet swapping -and I am shy to do as I dont want to ruin the pup (almost new). Furhter i dont have an adress selling class magnets here in germany.
and finally is nt a Ant with A5 opprox SH-1B?

Re: Balance problems

yes and no. spec wise they are similar but they would sound a little different. the reason that i said a softened a5 is that it will bring up more mids and soften the highs a little

in a les paul with vintage type pups like you have, i would run the neck pup just about flush with the pup ring, maybe even a touch lower and the bridge pup pretty close to the strings with the pole pieces flush with the cover.

No problem bro!
For example www.rockinger.de in Hanover stores them.
At least the Ant Bridge sound so much better with a full charged A2. i've got a set in my 335 with the stock neck and a full charged A2 in the bridge.
The changing is an easy job, there is no chance to ruin anything. Since i live in Germany (near Augsburg) i could do it for you. Just pm me!

Cheers Armin
