Banjo pickers?

JB_From_Hell

Jomo's Nimions
I just got an old banjo from my dad, and man, this thing is fun! So far, I've played a bunch of Stones songs (can't help it... open G tuning... :) ), figured out how to play "The Beverly Hillbillies" theme (just the melody), and worked out a solo arrangement of "The Safety Dance."

Anybody else bang around on one of these things?

Re: Banjo pickers?

Naw, but I play a dobro. I know just about every Stones song on it, couldn't help but smile at the thought of jammin' out with a banjo player on 'em. :)

Re: Banjo pickers?

i tried a banjo the other day....that thing confused the hell outta me. the whole thing with the low string starting like halfway down the neck was completely mind boggling. dobro's on the other hand, cool as hell. if i wasnt saving up for a 12 string right now, id look into gettin one of them

Re: Banjo pickers?

Someone left a banjo at my rehearsal room years ago, then disappeared and never came back for it. I messed with it for awhile, but damn, what a stupid invention.
Only a crazy redneck would put a neck on a snare drum, make the low string a plain string, and put a tuning peg in the middle of the neck! I sold it and bought a tonneau cover for my truck!

Re: Banjo pickers?

By the way, did you know the Banjo is the only instrument to be invented in United States? Damn rednecks! LOL

Surely the electric guitar is an American invention? It has to be - it's so bloody typical of you lot - take a refined and beautiful idea from the old world and make it loud and brash. :laugh2:

:joke: :wall:

There may be a market for a Stones tribute band with banjoes! :D

I saw a couple guys rocking "wild Horses" at the GreyFox Bluegrass festival a few years ago. A banjo picker, upright bass, mandolin and guitar. It kicked ass!

:)

Re: Banjo pickers?

I still gotta put in some time learning how to play mine...that high G messes me up all the time. I only bought it to be able to play "I Hate Your Guts"

It's a Hondo HB85A, made in Korea. It's got a really nice looking dark woodgrain back, with a big-ass eagle picture! :)

This thing is too much fun. "Inna-gada-da-vida" on the banjo is about to be the new greeting on my voice mail :D

Re: Banjo pickers?

Hey JB if you are ever looking for well built banjo to replace the one you have without spending alot of cash, check out the DEERING GOODTIME. (american made) It comes in an open back or resonator. Its fully adjustable, sounds and plays great.

And definatley check out Banjohangout.org. Many helpful, very skilled players there to learn from.

Cool, I will check that out. Right now, I'm just kind of messing around with it, but would really like to put forth the effort to get good.
