Bare Knuckle Nailbomb

So I was just saying I needed to throw some Duncans in one of my guitars when this PU came up in my thread...I looked at these before but they seemed like a bit much money; I do like what I hear though. Someone enlighten me. Are these good PUs and worth the money? Or on second thought what SD would get me close to this..I would be putting it in a Jackson Fusion---Basswood, 24 3/4 scale rosewood fretboard on maple neck etc. Looking for a hard rock/metal tone

Re: Bare Knuckle Nailbomb

the bridge model is a great pickup
didn't like the neck version, cause it's way too bright and hot
not sure what exactly you're looking for, but if you want something in the JB ballpark with tons of mids, forget the nailbomb
it's punchy, aggressive, edgy and very clear, but the midrange is very flat
it sounds great in marshall type amps, but for a mesa or framus, I'd pick the miracle man or painkiller
if you want a modern rock pickup with some classic vibe, the holy diver is your guy

Re: Bare Knuckle Nailbomb

Pickups are like 25% of the tone equation though. It's best to figure out what you don't like with the pickups you have now and select new ones that will correct those wrongs. Just my 2c though. A lot of people buy pickups expecting these huge day and night differences or to sound like a guy who uses them and get disappointed when their hopes aren't fulfilled.

Re: Bare Knuckle Nailbomb

I'd say that the nailbomb is the rhythm JB. It's not as screechy as Jb, but is mucho tighter. The midrange is very complex and crushing, but the top end/high mid range is much more subdued; does not have the similar singing quality as JB. I absolutely love the nailbomb in my jackson RR1T, though the particular beast is very dark and midrange heavy as far as sound goes. For early 80's thrash metal leads I'd still pick the JB though.
