Bare Knuckle Spacing

whats the prognosis? i might try to pick one up, was just curious what fellow SD forum cats think. i don't want to buy the wrong spacing. my spacing is like 50.something, so id get the 51mm? would 53 not be a good idea? i know little, forgive. im eyeing a few ATM. tankz!

Re: Bare Knuckle Spacing

How far are your e strings apart at the bridge PU (or is 50mm the string spacing and not the poles of the current PU as I´m understanding?)? That is the only important factor in this decision.

If 50mm is center to center string spacing, you´ll want the 51mm spacing, on a 53mm the poles would be outside the e stings. If the string spacing is wider, 53mm will usually line up better.

Re: Bare Knuckle Spacing

They come 50mm or 53mm. The 50 is actually wider spaced than a non-trembucker Duncan. 53mm is the same as a Duncan TB.

cool, thats what i was figuring, yeah its exactly 2 inches from E to E, it has blackouts in it now, so i never had to figure out what spacing it is. i used a converter and it said 50. something mm.

Send an e-mail to BK - they're very helpful people.

good call RP.

Re: Bare Knuckle Spacing

Remember, the spacing gets narrower, so you need to measure at the pickup to see what size you need, rather than at the bridge. Most floyds are actually 53.5 at the bridge, I think.

Re: Bare Knuckle Spacing

so even if the spacing is 50mm, but it has a kahler, i would need 50, is what i gather?

A Kahler has adjustable string spacing (I´m assuming a flatmounted or studmounted PRO or X-Trem, not an old Flyer or Floyd variant). Set it to where it´s comfy, measure at height of PU (as Izzo hinted at my statement was a bit misleading), choose appropriately spaced pickup.

OR just buy any pickup and set the Kahler to match the spacing of the poles ;)

Re: Bare Knuckle Spacing

I prefer short legs no matter what. The only place I can think of where you need long legs is in a full guard SG, and even then you don't always need long legs. All Duncans these days are "short legged", other than the obvious stuff (Slash/Ants).

Gibson still makes everything long legged, to give you an idea of the difference.

ah ha, i see. are your bk's alnico? ceramic? i heard one vid comparing nailbomb alnico and ceramic, while both sound nice, if i had to choose one, i liked ceramic a tad more.
