BareKnuckle Juggernaut WEAK? Help!!!

I just installed a set of BK Juggernaut 7 in my LTD M17. Its a project guitar that i have been working on. Simple 1 volume 1 tone .047 cap with 500k pots. I was under the impression that juggernauts were supposed to be a heavier pickup for metal but with mid clarity. All i am getting is minimum output seems no stronger than a single coil pickup. I used the wiring diagram from bareknuckle and was getting tone pot acting as volume so i used seymour duncan diagram and now its working but still weaker than a popcorn fart!! Can anybody tell me what i am doing wrong? Expensive pickups to be so weak maybe they are bad ? Thank you

More often a wiring issue than a pickup issue

Can you share pics of the wiring?

Re: BareKnuckle Juggernaut WEAK? Help!!!

But to be fair, the Juggernaut is absolutely not a super-high output pickup. It's designed to have a certain level of saturation and clarity but not to drive the amp perse.

Yeah, this really sounds like a wiring issue. As others have said, the Juggernauts are NOT super high output, so you might be disappointed if that's what you wanted, but they can absolutely do metal well and were obviously designed to do so.

I will post some pictures this afternoon. Thanks for the help everyone

Re: BareKnuckle Juggernaut WEAK? Help!!!

You used the BareKnuckle diagram and the pots weren't acting right, then you strayed from that and now the output is weak? 99% likelihood that a wiring issue still exists.

Chances are the BareKnuckle diagram was correct and something was grounding out that shouldn't have been (i.e. a capacitor leg grounding on a pot casing or similar) and/or you had a bad/cold solder joint(s).

Pics or it didn't happen :)

Re: BareKnuckle Juggernaut WEAK? Help!!!

lol, yes. The output is medium, at best, but the low end? nah. I found them boring, bland and absolutely not worth the dough.
I was expecting something more aggressive. Hoping that maybe it's just my soldering job. I have a little blackstar amp with a medium noise gate on it and I have to really grind to get the signal to come through

Yeah its not a real compressed flame thrower of a pickup check your wiring. Your situation reads as such:

Its either in Parallel. Working really really low output. this can be fixed.

You think its a flame thrower of a pickup and its actually working as intended. And now I want one because if its that clean I'd love it.
What would make it parallel? How do you test

Yeah, I'm thinking something other than the wire color codes was wrong when you did it the way BareKnuckle says to. Pics could go a long way to resolving this, though, just saying (again)...

Re: BareKnuckle Juggernaut WEAK? Help!!!

This is using the bareknuckle wiring diagram. Only difference is I soldered the cap on top of the tone instead of running it straight to the volume.

Re: BareKnuckle Juggernaut WEAK? Help!!!

Ok so check this out. When I test my black and red I get no ohm reading but when I check green and red or black and white I get readings on my ohm meter. Why is it doing this?

Re: BareKnuckle Juggernaut WEAK? Help!!!

On BareKnuckles:

Black and white are the start/end of the screw coil

Red and green are the start/end of the slug coil

You won't get a reading using black and red unless the green and white are tied together to complete the circuit

Is that your current wiring configuration?

Can you upload a bigger and/or clearer pic?

That's what the problem was. The green and white were not tied together. Soldered them and taped them up. Now it's working. Thanks for the help!!

Re: BareKnuckle Juggernaut WEAK? Help!!!

Turns out it was the white and green wires were not soldered together. Thanks everyone for helping me out. They sound pretty good but think I should have went for the Alpha Omega pick-ups. So if anyone has a set and wants to trade holler

Why do you think that? The alpha/omega set is just as clean and not high output as the juggernaut.

Just curious, but what is it that you actually want? Blowing out money like there's no tomorrow is always fun, but what is it that you exactly desire?

While I do think the Alpha/Omegas are a bit more aggressive than the Juggernauts (I have the A/O set in all of my main guitars), I think the bigger issue here is your amp. You're gonna have a tough time trying to get tones like Periphery and similar bands go for with a Blackstar. You need an amp that's a gain monster; those pickups do metal well because their frequency response and lower output keeps clarity in the tone despite all of that gain. You also need to pick HARD with those pickups to get the most out of them: they're meant to be very dynamic.
