I’ve played a few over the years, and they’re a lot of fun. What are some good ones?

Re: Baritone guitars.

The Schecter Hell Cat is a great instrument...sort of a Bass VI, but plays & sounds a lot better.

I have been wondering why I never hear of these animals. I'll soak up all you got? Mincer? Can you enlighten me on the subject? What is it like to play compared to standard electric?

Re: Baritone guitars.

Prs SE277
Ibanez RGD series
Esp v-401 Baritone
Ibanez MMM
There’s others but they’re what I’ve played.

Re: Baritone guitars.

I currently have one of the Ibanez RGDIX models. It's awesome and pretty much perfect. I'm only moving it along b/c I'm more interested in single coils right now.

Gotoh locking tuners, sweet woods, very decent stock Dimarzio pickups, simple control layout, 26.5" scale that's an easy adjustment up from 25.5".

It's my first >25.5" scale guitar. I don't think I'm getting the full baritone experience b/c it has humbuckers and the scale length isn't much of a change from 25.5. But I really liked having the extra saddle travel for intonation, and the bigger feel, which makes one less noodly. After all, the longer the scale, the more you approach bass territory.

I've briefly tried the Robb Flynn Epiphone Flying V, and its 27.0" scale was a noticeable adjustment for me. It's interesting how .5" can make a difference, but I guess for me, 27" is the threshold where my hands start feeling like they're playing a different instrument. 26.5" just feels to me like a more spacious 25.5".

I have an ormsby Hype GTR 6 string multiscale and that’s a 25.5 inch scale and a 27.5 inch scale and that feels awesome for A/B tunings
My Ibanez MMM1 is a 6 string with a 28 inch scale but I haven’t had the chance to play it yet.
Longer scale is much easy to adapt to as opposed to a seven string so I don’t even think about it despite me having regular sized hands.

Re: Baritone guitars.

I want a Bass VI but have no clue of a practical use for one. Maybe people should post clips of what to even do with these.

A Bass VI is tuned E-E an octave lower than standard. A baritone is usually B-B, so it’s not as low and easier to work into music than a Bass VI.

The lowest tuned I’ve ever used is B standard but where the low B is tuned to E(octave below standard)
F# 8 string is lowest form of standard I’d use.
Main tunings I use are D, Drop C, B and Drop A.

Re: Baritone guitars.

A longer scale length dedicated baritone guitar is really unnecessary. Just put 11 -13s on your strat, depending on what tension you like. Job done.

Bass VIs look pretty cool. You could use it in place of a regular bass, or not. Have 2 basses going, maybe 1 clean and 1 dirty.

You didn't keep MMM? None of 'em?

I’ve bought an MMM but can’t have it till May since it’s in another country and shipping is crazy expensive, played one of a friends friend and it felt great.
The PRS baritone is based on the Mike Mushok PRS Baritone which is Based on the MMM1
I was going to buy a prs 277 but those MMM’s are discontinued and quite hard to come by so I got it instead plus I’m a huge Ibanez fan.
The RGD is a 26.5 inch scale so may not be exactly what you’re looking for
The LTD is 27 I believe and comes with Dual EMG 81s
The PRS are 27.7 and the MMM are 28
Should be ordering a custom with a 26.5-27.5 inch fan for Drop A/B and maybe some G# stuff.

Re: Baritone guitars.

I think tone has to do more with if the guitar is a baritone or not, then tuning. I think few would argue that a Bass VI's E-to-E tuning is actually a bass. It sounds more guitar-like than a bass, just really low.
