Are these just guitars built to be tuned lower than normal? any likes dislikes about them?

thanks

Re: baritone guitars?

Yep. They're made with a longer scale length to give the guitar a tighter feel with the lower tunings and bigger strings.

Re: baritone guitars?

I prefer a standard 7 string tbh. I dislike the longer scale on baritones, and always end up missing the high e.

Re: baritone guitars?

a 7-string can't go a full octave low like my baritone jaguar...:D

Yeah you can, just use thick strings, or increase your playing skill...though your intonation might be interesting, lol...but an octave down you should just get a bass anyway, lmao.

Re: baritone guitars?

regular six-string baritone isn't for me, since i don't use sixers in B and i don't need bari-scale for anything higher. But 7-string baris are great for tightness and clarity.

Re: baritone guitars?

I find chords a bit muddy but that's just me. The jaguar baritone is amazing IMO.

Re: baritone guitars?

Any suggestions/recommendation on baritones, 7 strings or 7 string baritones? Thanks!

I personally like the jaguar baritone. On the other hand I haven't tried any others so take that into consideration. You could check out Warmoth's/USACG's baritone conversion necks

Re: baritone guitars?

Ok then, the ESP Viper Baritone rules, period, don't look any farther, lol.

Re: baritone guitars?

Tune your SG down and be happy. The sixth string is the only one that won't really intonate properly passed the 7th fret or so, but how often are you in that area anyway?

I used to be really pro-baritone for drop tuning, but I dig the dark, evil sound a standard scale guitar has tuned low. And if you don't believe me, look at the bazillion bands that tune super low, and look what most of them play. Les Pauls, PRS, Ibanez, Jackson.... ie, standard scale guitars.

Re: baritone guitars?

I think it's a matter of personal taste. I find that the long scale guitars sound more empty. The mids are more "plain".

I love my 7 string, and I think the 24.75" scale has something to do with it. I'm using pickups with ceramic magnets though. I think they rate at about 11 ohms.
