Baseplates

What does a baseplate do? Does it increase the mids and bass? The twang and "Tele-ness" of the pickup? And how would it effect the tone of a Surfer Custom Bridge pickup? Thanks!

Re: Baseplates

it changes the shape of the magnetic field which translates to more bass and mids to my ears.

i have a base plate on my custom surfer bridge, it sounds a little meatier with the plate on there and i like it better

Re: Baseplates

Hmm...it sounds interesting. Jeremy, would you say the Surfer bridge is somewhere between a Twangbanger and a Surfer Bridge with the baseplate?

Re: Baseplates

sorta. the surfer isnt a thick as the twangbanger even with a baseplate, a little stratier than the twangbanger but maybe more in that direction. that guitar is the closest thing to a srv tone that i have thru my dr and the bridge sounds great for heavy blues. with the baseplate on it doesnt lose as much bottom when you flip from the neck to the bridge. it might soften the top a touch but i think its an aural illusion since there is more low mids
