Basic recording, post some clips and setups

What type of set ups do you use to record with? Is it better to get one of those direct usb things/sound card or use a mic?

I'm kinda contemplating one of the lower maudio usb things or the black box maybe just to play around with.

Thanks!

Re: Basic recording, post some clips and setups

I record everything right from my pod xt into my comp by usb.
I have different patches for acustics, vocals, and electric guitar parts.
check my soundclick page for sound clips. I am only a hack at best at this whole recording thing.

hello
You don`t need a expencive soundcard for basic recordings.
M-audio have some nice products.
You got to ask your self how many in/outs you`ll need.
Line 6 guitarport will do fine as a usb device for basic guitar recording.

This is what i use:
maya 44 soundcard
Soundcraft mixer
Phonic speakers(p5a)
Pod xt pro (guitars)
vox tonelab (guitars)
Marshall jmp-1 preamp (guitars)
Vox ac 30 cc---->sm57 mic----->preamp
Art tps2 tube preamp(Bass,acoustic guitars,some vocals,some amp guitars etc.)
Focusrite trackmaster pro (vocals, some amp guitars)
Behringer composer
behringer modulizer
Samson s.phone headphone mixer/amp
Akg headphones
Logic platinium 5.5(software)
Reason (software)
+ a lot of vst pluggins

You can use both mic and preamps/software on most instruments. It depends on what you want it to sound like.
