Bass advice pls

i have come by a bass made out of after market parts ( P bass stile ) but now needs pickups but i know nothing about basses. it has a spot for a 2 peace P bass PU , middle & a jazz PU , bridge . what would be a good choice to start ?? pls help.

The best place to start would be the Vintage P-Bass SPB-1 and Vintage Jazz Bass SJB-1. These are the least expensive (best not to go overboard on price untill you know a bit more about PU tone) and will give you excellent tones - they are based on the classic vintage Fender pickups after all! Having no idea about tone myself many years back, I put an SPB-1 in a crappy Encore P-Bass copy and it sounded fantastic!

if you want a vintage tone without spending a bunch of money then jedys suggestion is a good one. if you want a hotter tone then a qp p bass and hot jazz bridge would be my suggestion
