Bass amps. Whats your rig?

Re: Bass amps. Whats your rig?

The ol' bass rig. That's a GK 400RB. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how old this amp might be? The model has been around a long time, but they've changed the cosmetics a few times. I think this one might date back to the 80s.
I use a Sansamp Bass Driver with it. It's like having a second channel - completely changes the voicing of the rig.

Re: Bass amps. Whats your rig?

GK 800RB pushing an Ampeg SVT 410 (US model... late 90's, early '00's maybe??) and a Crate 215 w/ JBL's.... the SVT is for the tone... the Crate is for the extra 'thump' when I want it... I've got a few different odds and ends pedals that I use sometimes but it's mostly bass-cable-amp... I WILL pick up a Bass Driver at some point though... THOSE rule!!

Ignore the mess... Everything's dusty from sitting for a few months. I play lead guitar in my current band so I obviously don't have much use for that setup yet shouldn't be too much longer though... Then I'll take a little Armor-All to everything and get it cleaned up...

Next thing is getting the GK in a rack along w/ a Furman, tuner, and POSSIBLY an RBI (if I go rackmounted over pedals...) Like I said, the GK to Ampeg is THE sound I'm after, the 15's just push the extra air that I like to feel... But pair it all together and it does some pretty serious damage onstage. Cuts through the guitar stacks like a hot knife through BUTTAH!!!! :nana:

Re: Bass amps. Whats your rig?

I currently have an Ampeg BA115.
For Basses, I have a Traben limited run anniv model thats a few yrs old, an Ibanez SR305, an EPI Tbird Pro and my newest (purchase wise) and fav bass is a late 80's-1990 Charvel 3b (I think)

Right now i'm using this 1976 traynor YBA-2b which I use for bass and guitar... sounds great with a Ibanez active bass... very smooth and warm and when I kick on my catalinbread SFT or Wren and cuff tall font Russian its instantly a rattly dirty angry sound..... Very good little bass practice combo

Re: Bass amps. Whats your rig?

Man I remember when there where stacks of Traynors in every rental dept for next to nothing, now you almost never see them and when you do the price has shot way up on them.

Yeah I think people finally realized how awesome tube Traynor amps are and started snatching them up.. I own the new model YGL2 EL84 combo and love it aswell... nothing but quality and great cleans from these amps and they love pedals which makes them very versatile.

The cab is a Nady PS-115, an inexpensive PA speaker one of my buddies gave me.
I'm gonna swap out the woofer for a 4 ohm bass driver.

Do net grabs count? :scratchch

I'm glad that this thread has been resuscitated because I am currently thinking about revising my tc electronic set up.

I currently have Staccato '51 and Classic 450 heads, an RC210 cabinet and Marshall DBS 7210 and 7410 cabinets left over from my previous stack. Right now, I fancy having more drivers BUT without the physical bulk of a square 4x10. The idea of a tc electronic 2x10 "combo" cabinet appeals to me. One amp head could clip into the combo cabinet and fit under the regular dustcover/gigbag. This would avoid needing to carry a separate gig bag for the head unit and remote footswitch. (Bah, humbug. I'm fifty years old. I'm through with carrying any more kit than strictly necessary.) If I ever feel like doing the Billy Sheehan two channels thang, the two amps are ready for action.

my Carvin Red Line Kickback 2x10

most of the time, here at the house,
I just use one of the models on the GNX and the drum loop
thru the effects return of the Red Line,
like a PA

How do you like the carvin?

For bass, I run an Ampeg BA115 (I think is the model)

Love those basses!! I recently got a Charvel model series bass like the one on the left with the p/jazz 3 knob layout and I love it! It doesnt have binding or sharkies tho. Im guessing mine probably plays and feels very similar.. I do like the look of the binding and fins tho! I dont like the cluttered layout of the knobs on the Ellefson model..

I Love Carvin
I have one of their Belair tube amps as well
both are great

the Red-Line is the one that gets the most compliments when folks hear it
rich and full sounding, has a tube in the preamp with a knob to blend it with the SS preamp
everything sounds good through it
I have recently acquired a BR15N
the new neodymium mag 15 inch extension speaker
I really have to take some time and figure out how to connect it to the
combo to get the Bi-amp thing set up
should shake the windows when i get it set up

maybe CapoFirstFret will chime back on how the cables go
or I could look it up on the website at some point

the Belair is sounds righteous also
Fender-ish Cleans and a Ratty distortion channel
there is a mod that is supposed to make the distortion channel more Marshall-ish
that would be cool but I am really hesitant to hork it up
I changed the tubes to Ruby's and tweaked the bias up a touch
to give it a bit more bite

it was a bit soft spoken and polite before the re-tube/Bias

Re: Bass amps. Whats your rig?

I run a few different "Pointy" basses and one Squier P-Bass Special (P-J pups) through wireless into a Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro with a BBE 362 in the loop. I'm using a Behringer BX1200 for now, but I just picked up an iNuke 1000 power amp that I'll be using to drive one or two Hartke 410XL cabs. All my basses sport the old SD "Active EQ" pups, except the Squier which has Lightning Rods in it. Yeah, it's a lot of batteries....

Full Mesa Powerhouse M9 Carbine head 6X10 cab and 4X10+15 ..2 cabs. 900w tube power. 4 basses and a few pedals.

Re: Bass amps. Whats your rig?

I'm a Carvin man. Got an old PB300C combo for small gigs and practice. Got a BRX212 also for small gigs and rehearsals. Use a Cyclops R1015 for club gigs and a BX1200 410NEO for bigger club gigs and outdoor gigs. Own about 30 basses which I do use from Alembic to Yamaha and everything in between. Also got into acoustic stuff a few years back. I play a 5-string fretless acoustic/electric and a 4-string fretted acoustic/electric. Been goofing around with a UTE bass, picture a ukulele with Asbory bass strings. Got a great acoustic upright kind of sound. Occasionally play a Dean electric upright.
