Not to hijack the thread, but can automotive paints be used to refinish a bass as well?

I believe some of the finishing materials are the same

Thank Leo Fender for that... in the 60s, he was looking for wild colors, and Duco nitro auto paint (then a division of DuPont) was the ticket.

Fiesta Red, Seafoam Green, and all the rest were color options on major US cars, though given different catalog names by the manufacturers.

PPG Automotive is the corporate descendant... you can color-match their current items fairly closely, though obviously they won't sell nitro to consumers in the US.
(DuPont started another company.)

If you search "natural wood finish" here, you'll get dive-bombed by about 20 pages of threads.

+1 for getting wood finished au naturel.

CAUTION: Solvent-based finishing materials are bad for the respiratory tract and its linings.

Well now I'm gone with Paulwonia wood instead of polar. It has a much better looking grain, and I have seen it used more on guitars.

Good choice. It's becoming more and more popular.

Like mahogany but lighter weight, a bit softer, and more affordable.
