Bass Guitar VST Plug In

Does anyone know of a good Bass plug in that will do passable Bass sounds from a midi file? Like, say I build a Bass track in guitar pro and then export it as a midi file and then bring it into Reaper and apply the Bass plug in and whammo, passable bass that sounds better than guitar pro.

So far all ive found I can try is a plug in called 4front bass. It sounds meh, but it doesnt seem to pick up all the notes. If I use a synth plug in I hear all the notes but of course it sounds like a synth and not a bass guitar, but, i at least know its not the midi file thats the issue.

Re: Bass Guitar VST Plug In

I have been abusing devices such as guitar synthesizers, MIDI guitars and the Roland VG-99 virtual modelled guitar system for decades. I am yet to discover anything that accurately models all of the finely detailed nuances of the instrument without also taking ten times as long to program into a sequencer.

e.g. Roland used to manufacture an SR-JV-80 series expansion board called Bass & Drums. (It also appeared as a standalone rack module.) The sounds were drawn from two well-respected Spectrasonics sample libraries. In order to add realism, there was one multi-sound patch dedicated to gliss, scrape and artificial harmonic sounds. These are things that we play instinctively. Placing them correctly in a sequencer part can take forever. Why bother? Jus' play da bass!

2 things stopping me. #1, I dont play bass and the most important. #2, I dont have a bass.

Not really, other than http://www.spectrasonics.net/instruments/trilian.php You still need to program midi really good.

I did see that, but an actual demo that I can try out seems to be eluding me. And of course, for 300 bucks i could probably just buy a bass and go with funkyfingers idea.

I use an older one made by M-Audio called Drum & Bass rig. Don't let the name fool you though - I've used the drum kits, drum loops, and bass synth/sample player on a variety of different tracks.

For $99 you get a 4 part VST instrument - the top one has drum loops of all different styles; the orange one is a TB-303 style bass synth; the Red module is sampled drum playback with room mic and overhead ambience you can blend in; the green/white instrument on the bottom is the Bass/Bass Synth. You get bass sounds played with fingers, a pick, slap, as well as nice synth bass sounds. There are all sorts of adjustments within the bass instrument for eq (treble/bass), drive, punch, decay, tone, switches for vibrato & harmonics, plus an individual effect and one master effect overall. I REALLY LIKE this plugin if only for the EB-8 Electric Bass, and the RD-7 Real Drum Module.

I think for $99 you can't go wrong with this. I use it regularly on my Ableton Live tracks. A google shopping search will give you a whole list of different stores/vendors with M-Audio Drum & Bass rig at $99.
