Bass guys: P/J wiring problem

Hey guys, I got this Squier VM Jag bass and started modding it. I went through a few pickup changes, the P is a Fralin which sounds fabulous, but the J took a few more tries. I found this crazy handwound set on ebay using 3/8" rods and wound hot. This is finally a keeper because it hangs with the P for output and it has the alnico thing going on. The hum isn't even that bad. It's really no comparison to the others I've tried and it looks pretty boss (I drilled the holes in the cover to show the magnets off).

HOWEVER I've got something wired wrong, I suspect the 2 pickups are out of phase with each other. When both volume knobs are full up, I get a honky unpleasant sound with lower output. It happens whenever the 2 volume knobs are set at the same level actually. If I back off either one just a tad, sound goes back to "normal". Does this sound like out of phase to you? Can I fix it just by switching the 2 wires on the bridge pickup?

I know all about guitar wiring, but this is my first rodeo on bass so I just don't know what I'm hearing. Thanks for your input!

Correctly spotted.

You need to reverse the output conductors of the J style pickup. Leave the P pickup connections as they are.
