So, last night I fired up the ol' Peavey Firebass 700 to do a sound check before band practice. Suddenly it sounded like the drummer was hitting his kick drum, but he was in the other room. I unplugged the cord from the input jack and the sound continued in a cyclical fashion, about once every 2 seconds or so. The "speaker protect" light went from green to red every time it happened and I am sure was the only reason that I don't have to replace the speakers. After 30 seconds of listening to this, I shut it off and pulled out the backup amp for practice. Is this the sound that a filter capacitor makes when it is going bad? This is a solid state amp, so I'm not even sure it has filter caps. Any ideas before I take it in to have a tech look at it?
