Bass on a guitar amp?

Re: Bass on a guitar amp?

after a while it can be to the speaker, but guitar thru a bass amp is fine.
bass amps are made to handle a wider range of frequencies than a guitar amp.

Re: Bass on a guitar amp?

Not the amp, the speaker(s). Bass speakers are generally designed to handle more power and lower frequencies. Remember, at standard pitch, the E on a bass is around 40 hz.

Generally speaking, the only way you'll mess up the amp running bass through it is if you have an impedance mismatch (like running 4 ohms on something that wants to see 16 or going under 2 ohms for most any amp) and running the amp too hard. Bass freqs take a lot of power.

is there a way to repair a speaker instead of changing it? :P

What did you do?

Look for a tear in the speaker paper- especially around the rim and around the center dust cap. If there's no tear you probably fried the voice coil.

Not that I've done either of those things...
