Bass pickup clanging like a bell or metal pipes!

Hi Bros--

Picked up a Cort Steinberger copy bass off eBAY and the P pickup in the neck position is doing a strange thing. While I was playing I was noticing a strange clanging sound. I stopped playing and tapped the pickup and through the "amp" (Bass Pod XT through headphones) it sounded like a big metal bell, or two pipes being clanged together. :bigeyes2: What the hell is that all about, LOL??? Is this pickup shot or can I do something with it.

Thanks Zerb. I was starting to feel like Tom Hanks in Cast Away.

I'm just going to replace all the electronics in this bass. After playing with it some more and comparing it to my other bass with a Dimarzio pickup, it actually sounds pretty lame. I'd love to put Bartolinis in it, but I think the Dimarzio PJ set would sound great and is about half the price. This is after all a $99 bass.

LOL, Good one. Simple. I like them. Seems like Geddy Lee didn't have a problem with them either, and he makes more money and plays in front of more people than anyone on this forum.

How much compression are you running?

I only use it for recording through a Line 6 Bass Pod XT. I just use whatever I need to get the sound and levels I like for the recording.
