Bass players! Amp question.

Re: Bass players! Amp question.

If it were me, I'd look for one of the old Seymour Duncan 300x300w heads. I've got two of them, and the most I paid for one was $200. Excellent head, really versatile, and it doesn't sound like it's all solid state.

Drawbacks

- it's old, so finding one is a bear.

-it's heavy- there's a lot of transformer iron in those things.

GK 800's are all over the place, and they're pretty cheap. They'll last you a good long time, as long as you pay attention to the impedance of your load.

I'm not normally a fan of Behringer stuff but the BX1200 is a pretty nice piece of kit.

I know 2 guys with this amp, solid and good sounding amp, with a fair bit of power to boot, if i wanted a bass amp, this is what id get. Also the strange shape allows it to be kicked back so its facing upwards like a monitor, very nice bass amp.

Re: Bass players! Amp question.

The Crate BX 100 is a pretty good amp for the money. A 15 inch speaker, 100 watts, and 8 band EQ and they go for a little under 200 used.

As was mentioned Ampeg and Warwick are excellent choices. I also like Trace Elliot stuff. And your buddy can pick one up on ebay, pretty cheap. It really depends on what kind sound he looking to get.

I'd stay away from Peavey and SWR!!!

For a good, cheap combo, i'd get a used Hartke Kickback 15, or similar. ;)
