Bass players, please advise

Is there a "bible" of sorts for bass players, and ultimately for singing bass players. The bass playing covers the range from Zep, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Sabbath to Accept, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue basically everything German, U.K. and U.S based between 1975 and 1985 that falls under hard and heavy so to speak. Perhaps there are two books, one for singing bass players, and other one for that type "heavy" bass playing? Thanks.

Full band transcriptions exist for the majority of the Led Zeppelin back catalogue.

Similar transcriptions must exist for some of the other artistes on your wish list. The chances of finding exactly the titles you want and none of the ones that you do not in a single volume are slim.

Man there are so many sites to grab music from out there but strong bass transcriptions are kind of rare.

I really recommend investing in "Transcribe" by Seventh String (www.seventhstring.com) between that, tabs, videos and something like GuitarInstructor.com you have a lot more available to you than what is likely available in printed form.

Do you want an instructional book, or a book of sheet music?

Exactly, i am looking for a instructional book that will give the player the vocabulary and the idea behind these styles. A functional alternative if you will, to just lifting stuff up. Thanks.

Your best bet is not so much one instructional book as a few books focusing on each bassist's cited influences and playing style, because that list is covering the spectrum from "bass" to "guit-bass" and "basic root" to "classical bass", sometimes within the same band.

The 1980-1983 Iron Maiden stuff alone would be a serious workout, as Harris was all over the map on those 3 albums (Number, Piece, Powerslave). Going further back to Iron Maiden and Killers gets you closer to Speed Metal Bass.

And don't even get me started on Geezer. "Ensemble playing" is putting it mildly. Freestyle Jazz Bass behind whatever-was-going-through-Iommi's-drug-addled-mind guitar over Freestyle Jazz Drums.
You might want to look into heroin to understand it, much less cop it.

Just learn to play everything Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart did on drums, but on the bass. That will get you rolling.

Usual suspects include;
Standing In The Shadows Of Motown - The Life And Music of Legendary Bassist James Jamerson.
Brave New Bass - edited by Chris Jisi

The former is specific to one artiste but where better to start than Jamerson? The latter is a compilation of magazine interview excerpts featuring numerous "name" bassists and complete with examples transcribed in both manuscript and tablature.
