Bass string comparisons?

Tapewound, flatwound, halfwound, roundhouse, etc. What's the difference between the types and what will get me the closest to making my piezo bass sound like an upright?

I'm pretty sure legit upright strings are gut or synthetic. I wouldn't know about those though. I would try tapewound or flatwound. Definitely stay away from roundwounds if you're looking for an upright sound.

Tapewound is just a metal string with nylon around the outside right?

Also can you put synthetic cat gut on a piezo electric bass?

Consider an upright bass has at least a 40" scale length and some FAT strings. Someone may make what your looking for though
