Bassline blackout sound

Re: Bassline blackout sound

How old are your strings? How old is the 9v battery that powers your pickups and any onboard active EQ?

Re: Bassline blackout sound

What's the configuration of your bass? J-J? P-J? Something else?

(What type of pickups does your bass have?)

Re: Bassline blackout sound

@BT. Right now, Blackouts for Bass pickups come in EMG-35 and -40 style humbucker casings only. Dual blade polepieces. No coil splitting.

Re: Bassline blackout sound

the neck pickup is more dominant

With two pickups of equal specification, the pickup sensing the greater string excursion will transduce a stronger signal. In order to achieve an equal volume balance when the volume controls are both set to maximum, it would be normal to adjust the neck position pickup further from the strings than the bridge position pickup.

i made a drawing of my installation

The drawing looks fine. Unfortunately, a diagram is theoretical. What matters is the actual wiring inside your instrument. This is the reason why Scott Olson requested photographs.

My only other question for now is, in which position is the micro switch on the EQ PCB?

Re: Bassline blackout sound

ok yes that could also be it but i made this drawing so it was better visible for everyone, because through al the wires to make a photo isn't that easy to see how every thing is installed.
the switch i put on 3.5 but when i set it to 5.5 by sound it's not much of a difference in my opinion but then i miss the attack of the pickups.
and the pickups are diverent voiced because there specifically a bridge pick-up and a neck pick-up.

Re: Bassline blackout sound

Looking at the SD website product description, there is nothing to clarify exactly how the neck and bridge position Blackouts for Bass humbuckers differ, tonally speaking.

I have a single BO humbucker in a Fleabass with an STC-2a EQ system. Even with one pickup in the "Stingray" position and in standard tuning, I find the instrument puts out so much low end that I often need to roll some of it off.

If the bridge position pickup can provide this much low end, it is likely that a neck position BO humbucker will provide even more low end and not a lot of treble. Combining the two bass-heavy humbuckers is asking for a Gibson EB type sound.

It is not possible to comment further on your wiring without seeing images of the actual soldering work.

Yeah, the diagram itself looks fine, it could just be a matter of needing to lower the neck pickup and raise the bridge.
