Bassline question for Jazz Bass - which pickup?

Hey dudes,

So my bassist bought a new bass a few months ago, a sexy 70s classic series Jazz Bass from fender. Really nice bass, nice sunburst finish with the bound neck and block inlays. Bass plays wicked, and sounds good.

But as we all have at a certain point, he wants his bass to go from sounding good, to sounding great. Right now, he is considering the bassline pickups, but being a noob when it comes to such things, I can't help him much, except maybe pointing him in the right direction when it comes to companies.

He is looking for : a Jazz Bass set of pickups, that will fit in direct replacement (actives considered but not preferred), that will take his sound up a notch from the fender stock pickups, while remaining good overall pickups. The best way to describe it, is he wants to make his all around sound better, while still keeping the basic sound of this style of instrument.

He needs something versatile, as we play a lot of covers. We play mostly blues inspired rock, classic rock, and a bit of hard rock, but nothing that comes even close to metal.

All suggestions are appreciated, either from the duncan line or outside of it.

Thanks bros!
Phil

Thanks for the reply dude, we might go check that out later tonight.

Anybody else have suggestions or has had the chance to try out a few different models? I am also wondering if the duncan exchange policy applies to the bassline pickups...?

antiquity II jazz bass pups have tone to die for!!

i just saw a local band over the week end and the bass players tone was amazing. he was playing a fender jazz with those pups and it was wonderful. the guy had great chops too which didnt hurt but the tone was awesome

I've changed the Bartolini harness in a Designed by Tobias 5-string bass and put a Duncan Basslines harness with the AJB-5 set.

It made a world of diffence for the client. I've personally not heard such a big change, even though the tone got more complex and harmonic than before.

YMMV, and no, I'm NOT a bass player.
