you needs a verb unit for surf. Bassman and singles, especially a bridge on a strat or tele will handle surf like anything else, but the reverb is key for the sound.

Yeah I know, speaking of reverb...what say you about the EHX Holy Grail for a good reverb pedal? What about the Holier Grail?

If I were gonna play sure I would go for a big (high power) BF Fender...like a Showman or a Twin and even thought the Twin has very I'd get an outboard anyway. You could get away with a BF or SF Bassman but I woldn't try it with a tweed...to much crunch and too many mids...
