hot rods & blues's are pretty different

blues's have a lot more bite to them, and no "more drive" channel

people's biggest complaint with hot rods is the more drive channel is useless

and the blues was more like a bassman

Everyone should own a Twin for awhile just to know what they sound like and to put more clients into Chiropractic offices.

I get the Jones for one every once in awhile...but all it takes is trying to heft one and thinking what it'll be like moving it from the ground to the back of a truck or SUV at 1:30 in the morning after a gig.....and suddenly that Jones just fades away!

Get a Showman head amp...essentially a Twin without the reverb and alot less heavy to haul around....hehe
Combo's the killer of backs!

i played a show where albert cummings was on the bill as well and he had two vibrokings. sounded really nice, but yeah, they are HEAVY. not quite supertwin heavy or svt heavy but nothing i want to carry around

now a Vibroking is one amp i'd love to own!!!! seeing it has been Pete Townshend's amp of choice for over 12 years now... Can't afford it myself... here in Canada they get up over $3000 easy...

The local shop has a new Twin in... the modern version.... man is it a fat cabnet... just looking at it it looks like it could weigh a hell of a lot

but weight wise it can't be any worse then the 5150 half stack i have... but to be honest i hated hauling that after gigs... getting to the place and setting up was always OK... but at 3am hauling that pig of an amp made me wish for roadies

However, the deal about the combo amps is that all that weight is in a package that's less than 3 foot tall and generally doesn't have casters and cannot be separated head+cab. It's much easier to haul a cab and head individually than it is to carry a 90 pound combo.

IIRC the VibroKing is around 120 pounds. My SWR 2x15 is 115, but it's easy to haul as the handles are in good places and it's just tilt and roll. The VibroKing is just the handle on the top and brute strength. I'm too old for that kind of crap.

wow... 120 pounds... i figured it would of been around 90-100 but 120 is a lot.... my 5150 head is said to be around 91 pounds or something and it's a bugger to move...

Heaviest frickin' 72 pounds I've ever lifted.

I'm used to hauling 90 lb bass cabs- I wanted no part of that VibroKing.

the thing about the vibroking is that its very unbalanced and awkward to carry. 72 lbs is plenty heavy but manageable but the weight distrobution seems off

I love the idea of the Twin...and every time I see one I get goosebumps and start salivating.

But man....after I play it I get to the point where my wallet pocket is starting to itch and I scratch my chin and I man-up, reach down, take a deep breath and...

....never mind. I'll go with the Deluxe Reverb and a good mic for it!

Definitely a crunchy amp, very Marshallish (being that the early JTM45s were pretty much Bassmans with british tubes in them). Half way probably gives you a little bit of a crunch, just like my Twin Tweed, maybe even less. If you want dead on clean at high volumes, go for a blackface model like the Super Reverb (which is a beastly amp, breaks up on its own as well but at pretty **** high volumes) and of course the jumbo Twin Reverb. Definitely give the Bassman a chance as it is arguably the best amp of all time.

It's the transformer placement. Not a smart design on that front. Great amp, though.

I personally don't like fender's bassman reissue. All the ones I've tried have sounded tight and stiff. The only nice fender in that style I've tried was the bassbreaker, which was a bassman ri in a smaller solid pine cab with 2 vintage 30s.

I'm with GJ on this one: get a blues deville or a supersonic. The supersonic has really nice low/medium overdrive tones on the gain channel, and the bassman side of the clean channel is very good.

i'll have another look at the Blues Devilles then if i can find on old one around.... i know i didn't like the gain channels on the hotroded series that i was trying out a few years ago.. The singer in my last band had the early 90's tweed Blues Deluxe one..... loud and clean! after he tried a pod thru his keyboard amp he ditched the Fender amp... he loves modern toys like the POD

just remember to start off with the gain knob around 6 and then adjust it to taste

it doesn't sound good dimed, but it sounds good just about everywhere else
