Hey guys im a new kid on the block when it comes to pickups. After i modded my Kramer striker with a JB(Which i love) it got me thinkin about moddin my basswood strat copy. So far ive got a Kramer Focus 111s neck on my strat body. im looking for a Glam/Sleaze metal tone but i want something thats slightly different. I play through a Marshall DSL 100h. I don't really care what pickups i get but i want some ideas. ive been toyin with a Duncan distortion, a Bareknuckle black hawk and some emg pickup. i would kinda like an LA Guns style tone cuz in some videos tracii guns uses a strat which i think is a neat combo of classic and balls to the wall hard rock. This guitar would not have a floyd rose cuz the guys in my band are always changing the tunings on me and my floyd rose guitar cant change easily.
Thanks

Re: Basswood superstrat pickup

Welcome. There's always room for one more.

Glam/Sleazy metal tone....a sound near and dear to my heart. A lot depends on the natural tone of your strat. Is it bright or is it darker naturally? When I think of LA Guns, I think of a tight, cutting sound... for both the treble and bass frequencies. The Seymour Duncan Custom fits that bill perfectly. The Distortion will also do nicely, as several bands used the Distortion in the 80's if memory serves. It's also a tad darker than the Custom if memory serves.

Another killer pickup is the Original PATB. Even though you won't be using a Floyd, it's a great pickup to fatten up a strat. There is a Distortion version for something a little hotter, but the Original is plenty hot. There is also a lower output version, somewhere around 10k IIRC, called the PATB-3. I think the original would be right up your alley. I have one and I love it. It lives in my only Floyd equipped guitar and it will do most 80's tunes better than I can play them.

Hope this helps.

If I recall correctly Tracii Guns used to play BC Rich Gunslingers which came stock with a single Dimarzio Super Distortion. Great pickup for 80's Sunset Strip tones. You can't go wrong with a SD or a Duncan JB for the sound you're looking for.
