Battery v. AC - which sounds better?

i've been getting conflicting opinions (what a surprise) whether effects pedals sound better with battry or AC -- i'm inclined to get a power-all and power everything up that way so i don't have to worry about batteries -- but i'd like the sense of the forum on this issue..... thanks!

in my opinion, powered is always the better way to go...no sagging batteries, changing batteries, you get a constant, regulated power (if you have a good supply)....it's just better in a number of ways in my opinion

me no get eric johnson joke.......

Eric Johnson sometime told that he could hear the difference between battery brands in his effect pedals. As far as i know, this has become an internal guitarist joke ;).

well batteries mean that the tone changes (as they go flat) power supplies ar more constant.

Re: Battery v. AC - which sounds better?

I've never noticed any difference tonally and a power supply unit is so much easier to manage than batteries if you have more than one pedal.

my marshall blues breaker ii pedal sounds much batter driven with batteries.
but they get dry so fast *cry*

Plug it in!

Tracking down a low battery in an effect chain, stopping, and replacing the battery was always a drag... and it always seemed to happen during a show, or right in the middle of something good...

Plus, if you leave some effects on all the time such as a tuner, noise gate, or compression, plugging it in is a must!

What, you mean you guys cant hear the difference between Duracel and Energizer? COME ON!!! It's so obvious that the Duracel has a more coppery tone, while the energizer sounds like a pink marching band rabbit has invaded your overdrive.

There's so many other factors that go into tone that make such a bigger difference than batteries. For the most part the power is being used to power the transistors or chips and is not even a part of the signal chain. Is the "difference in sound" worth the trouble of paying for batteries and one going dead in a show?

I'm wall-wart powered all the way!
