Battle of the 7 strings

Re: Battle of the 7 strings

I have tried the Schechter Hellraiser, it sounded good, warm and thick, also the guitar was light-weight, easy to play, but it also was having severe buzz on higher frets, with *plenty* of action and almost straight/light neck relief. Since I could not figure out how this thing would ever come in shape, didn't bother further.
I have the 6-version of the previous model of the ARZIZ, the ARZ800, and it is simply perfect, it only has one defect, the 13th fret being a tad higher, which can be manifested only under heavy picking and silly low action.
Also I have the Ibanez UV70p 7-string (and only 7-string I have), roughly with same characterists (woods, scale) as the RG752. It had problems from the factory, which I fixed myself, while it would be a piece of cake for any good tech to sort out. It sounds pretty good. + the RG752 is supposed to have the best Ibanez hardware (lo-pro). I think you can't go wrong with that. If you need a tremolo 7-string guitar, this one should be the best choice.

That 'transparent black sunburst' S series prestige up on the Ibby site with the Lo-pro would be my choice :32:

I've got the regular (non prestige) S 7420 with a ZR trem & it's fantastic. I've also got a 6 string S 540 Ltd with a Lo-pro & it's the best floating bridge ever made imo..

But then, personally.. I'd be looking at all round comfort, playability, a floating trem, great lead tones etc ...not just something for down-tuned, low-end chug/djent (not that it'll lack a thing for that sort of stuff either) So I guess it it depends on what you want it for..

That's a sweet guitar, classy, for the grown up mature ex-shredder, who also wants to shred now and then, but also appreciates jazz, blues, rock and other genres as well. I would have bought this, if the pups were not IBZ.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm looking for something versatile for sure. Pickups can be changed if needed. I just want a quality guitar that won't have any issues like greekdude mentioned about the Schecter. I'll never tune it down, always in standard tuning. Good for heavy riffs to nice cleans. I have no problem getting good cleans with EMGs.

I was also looking at Mayones and Skervesen. Mayones was WAY too expensive. Skervesen is ok. Around $2,000 - $3,000 I can deal with. Has any of you tried Skervesen?

I was looking at this one. The Swan. I think one made to my specs would be around $2,000.
