Re: Battle Of The V's

Favorite overall is the Jackson King V. Other than looks, it's mostly because of the lightning fast Jackson neck and characteristic Jackson tone. Doesn't hurt that Mustaine played one around the Rust In Piece era, either. :cool2:

Also a fan of certain Gibson Vs, although the ones with thinner necks. One of my first guitars was a '85 Gibby V with ebony fretboard. It had awesome tone, but man it was tough to shred on compared to my Charvels due to the baseball bat neck and shorter frets! I guess it probably helped push me to really build up my finger strength an endurance, but I much preferred a '90ish Gibby V with bound fretboard my uncle had, which had a rosewood fretboard and thinner neck. Within several years of starting to play, I had developed to the point I could play almost any guitar quite fast, although I struggled with the Gibby V in the early years. I was inspired by Michael Schenker's tone and playing, and of course his black/white one was very cool looking, too.

Re: Battle Of The V's

I am lucky enough to own a Byrd Super Avianti. Fantastic playing, looking and sounding guitar; I don't think I will ever need a strat style guitar again unless I am to take up some serious gigging (highly unlikely!), as I don't think I would dare to bring it on the road.

My Dean 1982 US V is pretty rad too.

I'm a total pointy guitar fanatic. I've got some classics in the arsenal, American Strat, nice Raven West Tele, Ibby Les Paul and so on but for what I do most of the time, Vs are the sh!t.

You don't even have a jackson warrior.

Re: Battle Of The V's

Sadly i don't have any v shaped guitars. The shinobi is essentially a v but not really.

I will need to change this.

Re: Battle Of The V's

ESP SV/Alexi. Basically a rhoads shape, but bigger, and with a cutout at around the 20th fret for better access to the higher frets.

Thanks a lot! I shall see what I can do, but at the moment the guitar is in Norway and I in New Zealand! But I shall see if I can find any other photos of it.

Re: Battle Of The V's

I really like the King V shape. I wouldn't mind having one except for the 24 frets.

I do too!! Love the ones Robbin played, especially with the upside down headstock..

If I could by a V right now though, the Gibson V Traditional in black would be my choice.

Like the bound body and lack of pick guard.. Or an old 80s Gibby V with a kahler

Gary Kramer Kramertorium - I like that it's a modern, sleek take on the classic V design. I've never played one, but simply from looks, that's one I'd love to try. Oh, and I'd try the guitar too! :32:

That said, there are no greater flying V's than the originals Metallica used in the early days. Hammet's black V is it for me.

Re: Battle Of The V's

Hamer does a great take on the V and my 2004 Vector is my favorite among the Vs I have.

Re: Battle Of The V's

Jackson's, especially the US ones, have the best playing necks I've played, like putting your fingers on a stick of butter, if that analogy makes any sense

Butter fresh out of the refrigerator, or butter that's just starting to melt?
