Re: Beating Out a Les Paul?

This is as Les PAul as any Les Paul. My #4 guitar and closer to the top than the bottom:

Bump for info on MIJ"s

This is very difficult. I have been sniping a MIJ LP every now and then for years and most of the time I come back to the specialists posting pictures *after* I get them.

In general you can use these:
- no flame maple
- no hollow top, of course
- fret edge binding is a good indicator but it disappears on refrets

Do not be afraid of the 1990ties but be aware that Burny etc. are not necessarily made in Japan as they get younger.

My person shortcut rule is that if the thing has an ABR-1 bridge I am inclined to buy it and sort it out later.

It's a bit like a lottery.

MIJ guitars can be great. Im sure its hit or miss too. The good ones are older and can be beat up or very corroded as the air in Japan is very salty. I have a Burny from the 80s that is absolutely killer. I got lucky and it had all the parts upgraded. The finish is alot thicker if thats an issue, but not to me. The new Burnys aren't the same, (have a funny design on headstock)but must be made pretty well cuz Duff Mckagan plays em in loaded and Im sure Duff can afford anything and could prolly get Gibs from Slash.. Tokais are good too, but the older ones are better.
