I mean, jeez, if you can pick up a custom shop Les Paul for half of what this guy is trying for his Standard, why even bother? I doubt most people care that the covers were taken off and the caps were changed, it's still not worth a fraction of what he's asking for.

I don't think he's selling a regular standard. It says in the auction that it's a Custom Shop Historic 59 Reissue. It's no typical standard (from what I can tell), but it's still on the pricey side considering that soldering job...

I thought the top was just ok on that one and I have seen a LOT better!
Now THIS is a killer top! I sold this one a few months back it's a 2002 Ibanez Artist Prestige and was KILLER player. It was awork of art and so pristine I just couldn't make myself get it out and play it belonged in a showcase!!

beautiful guitar but for close to $5k its a little steep

My feeling too. I've got one just like it and seeing this one go for almost $5000 makes me feel like maybe it's time to unload mine.

Wonder what I could get for it?

BTW, mine came with TWO cases: one brown and one black. That's the way Gibson sold them when I bought mine. I think it's a '98 or '99.

The one in this auction only has the black case...wonder if the owner kept the brown case?

It's supposed to be a 59 Reissue, which means Historic. So whoever said it was just a Standard, it isn't.

I really like the color, really glows, but the cross grain makes it a little too graph-papery for my tastes. Still a very cool guitar and yes to the zebras...
