Beautiful Les Paul

I have always loved the look of a flamed top Les Paul. As time went by, I started to realize that the most beautiful LP's were not the insanely flamed tops, but subtle flame models like the originals, with dark mineral streaks, faded looking finishes ect. Now browsing the LP forum I came upon this picture. It's an R8 Plaintop in a Lemon Drop finish. Possibly the most beautiful, non flamed guitar I have ever seen. I just had to share it with you all.

i dont like the heavy flames......the subtleness makes me feel warm inside.....*ducks away into the shadows*

Re: Beautiful Les Paul

You hit the nail on the head - the "plain" maple is the reason gibson started doing hte bursts in the first place - to spice things up
Sometimes I find overly flamed tops with elaborate bursts a little too much - but then again - I'm a sucker for em too

Re: Beautiful Les Paul

a LP for me either has to have a monster amount of flame or a solid painted top, nothing else does it for me.

Re: Beautiful Les Paul

I love plain tops the best with a nice grain. Flame and quilt tops are too pretty for me, theres something very utilitarian about plain tops that i love

Re: Beautiful Les Paul

That's very nice.
Some plain tops can look awesome depending on grain patterns.
Otheres can look just dull and boring as can be.

Many guys prefer the plain top not just for looks, but for sonic quality.
There are many that feel a plain top has more snap and more clarity than a
figured top.
They feel a figured top mellows an LP too much.

Re: Beautiful Les Paul

I'd like it better if both sides matched better... the contrast in the colour of the finish of the sides ruins it for me.

Re: Beautiful Les Paul

My #1 LP is very simular looking to that guitar, except mine is a 98 std in honeyburst (more amber than a lemon), mine has better grain and came with gold hardware.

That is a great look for a plaintop.......

I agree with Mike. I love the Premium Plus LPs. A LP has to have some flames. There is nothing like a sweet flame top or solid red Les Paul. IMO of course!!
