Bedroom Amps - Your Favorite

I've had literally tons of small practice amps. From regular solid states, small 1 to 5 watt tubes and modelers. My favorite that I have owned was the Marshall Micro Zakk Wylde stack. I've had a few different modes of the micro stacks and all sounded great as just a plug and play amp but I liked the push button on the ZW model that kind of compresses the tone. For just bedroom jamming straight into the amp, those little micro stacks rock. I think I may start scouring Craigslist in search of another one.

I would say the Roland Microcube. Versatile as all get out and it has a headphone output. Next in line would be the Jet City Picovalve. Any power tube you want and at the 2 watt setting, in a decently insulated room, you can crank it for that power tube breakup, and still not piss off the neighbors. At 5 watts it will keep up with a drummer and a bass player (as long as they don't crank it).

however i find i use the tiny marshall ms-2 more often than not.

My Fender Mustang V2 is pretty cool. Tons of different tones at the turn of a knob

Tiny 1 watt Blackstar. The 8" speaker chokes the sound but in a nice greasy lo-fi kind of way. Plugged into a big cab things get bigger and louder. I like it 'cause I can set it up where ever the mood strikes. It's as easy to move as a six pack of beer.

I've often wondered about having one of the 1W, or 5W, Marshalls for recording stuff at home, but tend to look at the prices, and put that idea to one side.

In practise, are lower powered tube amps in general worth the price?

The Blackheart killer ant head (1W) has served me well. 1W is still pretty loud if you really must not disturb anybody nearby (next room or downstair appt. Neighbors in a cheap building or something) but cleans + pedals works well enough for those "lower than TV" moments for those Neighbors who'll tolerate your sitcom super loud but won't deal with two notes out of your guitar (been there a lot before I got a house).

Still, if I had to go back to appartment or dorm rooms (that was a long while ago huh?) the best option would still be an smartsomething (iPod, iPhone, whatever) with amplitube. How I wish these were available when I was a student...

those 4 watt tube amps little amps are just awful, or at least the little 4 watt vox..totally gutless, nothing but treble. I can only imagine the nano stuff is way worse! The top end on the little Vox sounds real nice though. I don;t think running through a big canbinet solves anyhting.IDK, maybe you need to turn the volume up on it, I'll try that, but that kinda defeats the purpose. I think the little solid states like the Peavey 1x10's have more bass.=, but they are also more watts. I,m going to sell the little Vox and get the old Peavey for practice.

I've always read that it's not good for metal, but I think with the boost function engaged it does well enough. I'll try to find a video

This one's not bad. I like it mostly for the silent recording ability and its nice to have as a portable backup amp for gigs

I've always liked my 200-watt Mesa Mark III half-stack for bedroom playing.

I never worry about volume. After all, as a true Artiste, I feel that it's important that others...you know...the talentless little people...suffer for my art. :jester:

Seriously though, when I lived in an apartment, I tended to play mostly acoustic. And fortunately, my neighbors were always very gracious and nice, even complimentary. Much better now that I'm in a house, but 10 p.m. is still the cut-off for electric work.

I used a Quick Rod as my bedroom amp when I was single and lived with roommates. Now a vintage Princeton Reverb works as my low volume house amp.

Favorite might have been my Fender Gdec, but this Orange Bass amp works great as a bedroom amp right now. Though where I live I could probably play as loud as I wanted with no complaints at all.

I use an acoustic G20 lead thing, it's decent, as in "sounds good enough". I got it on some stupid sale GC was having for super cheap.
