Man, talking about this makes me want to open up my DS-1 again and start fiddling around with part values.....LOL. I do want to try some different diode combinations, like two 1N4001's, maybe a transistor for one of the diodes.

Do it brother Erik ! :)

A DS-1 modified by Mr. Keeley himself was my distortion sound for quite a while, using the clean channel on a Split Channel JCM 800. It has suffered from a lot of experiments, bit I've never thought of sticking a trannie where the diodes are.
Let us know how this sounds ! :)

And Jeff, diodes are only a couple of cents a piece. Pleast try it's near impossible to screw up adding or replacing a diode ! :)

I will be, V!N. As soon as I replace the tip on my iron. It snapped at the end the other night. Thankfully I had finished what I was doing and was just cleaning the tip in tip cleaner. It was bent a little bit, probably from too much pressure on it.

Jeff's not exactly a DIY person when it comes to this stuff. He doesn't own a soldering iron, though I've tried to get him to get one for swapping pickups. :D

I have one of John Spinas TS9 mods. I initially used it with a Deluxe Reverb to give it a little push for lead work and it worked extremely well with this amp. I also have a stock TS9 and by comparison the modded TS9 is thratier it has more bottom and more gain. A very nice OD indeed. Since I bought my Bogner Shiva I have been using it as a clean boost in the clean channel and again I love the effect I am getting with it. Works really well.
I have no experience with any of the other modded pedals mentioned. I would highly recommend Johns modded TS9 if you want a really good sounding OD pedal.

Not Exactly ! Common Rookie mistakes... Cold solder joints/Bad conections, Burnt traces in PCB,Useing Plummer's solder (acid core) and anything hotter
than a 40 watt iron or a Soldering Gun.:no1: :fingersx:

And If you MUST KNOW!

YES ! I made all of them Rookie mistakes.:smack: But that was when I was in my teens. Teenagers seem to always have to learn the hard way.:13:
