i use a Russian Big Muff all the time for bass. it's got nice thick distortion and violin-ish sustain, but i don't really like it as much for guitar as for bass. the main downside, i'd say, is that it doesn't have a jack for an AC adaptor, which can be kind of a pain changing batteries and the battery dying at the worst times, etc.

Nowadays you have ALOT of muffs, the nano, the little big muff, double muff and of course the russian models of the old and modern days.
So before you buy try as many as you can, i'm not saying the little big muff is a world of difference but there are some differences, be sure to check out as many as you can.
Don't buy just because Jack uses that one buy the one that sounds closest to what you're aiming for.
Trying to buy a Muff these days is like when you were a kid and you were told to go buy some cereal, so many choices, so many of them look the same but with different prizes.
