Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

I heard that behringer did a good job replicating the verbzilla with this unit...

What you guys think?

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

Wait, Behringer blatantly copied the look and/or function of another company's product? That can't be right...

[/sarcasm]

I personally dislike Behringer as most products of theirs I've run across have just been terrible quality. Cheap plastic housings, poor construction, etc.

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

If it's like most behringer pedals, it will sound almost the same but will be constructed cheaper on the outside and inside.

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

this actualy amazes me how behringer can reverse-engineer a complex circuitry and actually selling it at a lower price to the consumer market.

cut corners yah for sure, but still... i'm sure verbzilla is a very complicated digital pedal. i imagine line 6 spending a lot of time researching and developing this.

it's no surprise for me for anybody to clone a tube screamer or a BBD analog delay, or a fuzz face. but to actually clone a multieffect is pretty amazing. men, those verbzilla should have some kind of DSP processing right, how could behringer replicate this? they have the same manufactures of silicone chips? same programers and engineers? maybe an inside job lol

i don't believe in piracy, but in all honesty, for the price i might try one... grin:burnout:

i rememeber LEW being a fan of the verbzilla. i wonder how he would react to this?

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

I've got 2 Behringer pedals and they're both great. Got tue TU300 tuner (actually tracks better than the TU-2) and the Boss PS-5 clone (can't remember what Behringer calls theirs).

Sure the construction isn't as good, but they're sturdier than people think. And comparing the £35 I paid for my PS-5 clone to the £145 that Boss charge for a proper one, even if it breaks, I'm still winning.

Both pedals do what they're supposed to do very well, have a decent bypass, and cost peanuts. Fixed to a pedalboard, it's unlikely they'll break any time soon.

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

it's an interesting debate. From what i've heard, most of their pedals sound great and sound almost exactly like the ones they rip off. I own their DD3 clone delay and I'm happy with it. I paid thirty bucks as opposed to like eighty. Times is hard.

Loserchief pretty much nailed it, saying that they sound good but are nowhere near the build quality of a Boss. Thats where the price gap comes from IMO.

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

It appears that line 6 is a California based company that manufactures in California. Behringer is a Hong Kong based company that manufacures in China...there's the cost advantage!

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

I have also wondered how they copy digital information, like for the POD clones. Maybe there's some fancy equipment (built better than theirs of course!) that can retreive the info from chips. Is is ethically right? Probably not. Can they get away with it? Apparently.

I use some behringer stuff, but I'm not super proud to admit that.

exactly, did the guys from boss, line 6, EHX forgot to copyright thier work?

i have the behringer 7 band eq and it works just fine. it's plastic but still sturdy. bought it when they came out first. it was 19.99 before in zzounds.com now they are selling this for 29.99.

Line 6 has never made a single thing in California. All of their production is in Asia.

Behringer is IIRC a German company, but I'm sure their production is in China.

It's actually pretty easy to pull stuff from a ROM chip if you have the right tools.

Behringer are thieves who get away with outright plagiarism through various loopholes in international law. Even if you can get past this, their products are junk. Prone to noise and failure.

They are owned by a German guy and were originally located there. They built a facility in China for all thier production and moved the headquarters to Hong Kong. I'm sure Line 6 manufactures in China...most elecronics are made there any more anyway. Thier engineering, purchasing and management are in California though.

As for patent protection, China does not recognize American patents and Chinese companies routinely reverse engineer just about anything and sell it abroad with little chance of repercussion. When a company chooses to manufacture in China, they have little chance of success unless they partner with a Chinese company...which is in essense the chinese government since everything is state owned. If they choose not to partner, they run the risk of lost production via "power grid testing" and other strange practices that only affect stand-alones. They also have to pay for "protection" to get thier products out of the country.

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

I'm waiting for them to produce a $500 Dumble and/or Trainwreck clone. The uproar!!!

interesting..

Re: Behringer RV600 rips of the Verbzilla..

It is a fine line in many ways. Think of the number of fuzz, TS and other pedal copies that are actual steals. Boss SD-1 is pretty much a steal as well. Do you have any Fender, Gibson or other copies? So the rational is if the quality is better is is OK to copy? How is that ethically superior? If you don't have a copy how about the numbers of them that exist? It is really hard to get too critical here for many of us.

I dislike Behringer because of the quality of their products, not because of their lack of originality.
