But the resale value is 5x more.

You got me there, although resale isn't ever something I personally would need to factor in.
Still though, I agree those simple older Carvins are really where the brand shined the brightest, and at a time when stainless could usually only be found on higher-end models with the bigger brands, or on very expensive custom-shop brands.

I agree with everything you said.

Here is a grainy pic of my almost 10yr old full honduran mahogany, ebony/jumbo-stainless Carvin dc125f . With all charges, hardcase, shipping it was right at $1200.

While I like this guitar, it is about the same price range as a PRS, which seems to do this sort of thing a little better.

Actually take a closer look. The Kiesel is about 50 to 60 or so % of a PRS with similar specs. Also PRS does not offer stainless frets the ebony or the flatter board radius Kiesel offers stock unless you pay absolutely huge up charges. To get a PRS with the same specs as that Kiesel you would pay well over $2 grand more. Also resale on Kiesels is nuts right now and some of the highest in the industry if you stay away from the crazy options.
Here is the same basic guitar off the Kiesel Builder. The builder is not showing a Floyd so you would need to call expect about a $100 up charge for the Floyd and lock nut. Try to buy a new PRS with these specs under 5K and will be more with the Floyd. I like the electronics on the Kiesel and call the materials and build quality equal. The PRS will use nitro for the finish so the Kiesel will be more durable plus with the Graphite rods the neck will be more stable. The only company that is the equal to Kiesel on quality of fretwork is Ernie Ball and I call it a dead heat.

Since so many have commented on the color of the new DC 600 thought I would drop this photo out. Upper is the candy Red 2016 DC 600 lower is the Ferrari Red 2017 DC 135 I have. Don't know that the Candy red is worth the $200 up charge though.
