Hi all, new here. I am considering getting a Benedetto S-6 floater for my archtop. I understand these are made right in the Seymour Duncan shop. Does anyone have one of these, and if so, how was the mounting procedure? Sound?
Hi pmgnut. Welcome to the forum. I can confirm that Benedetto pickups are made (under license) on the Seymour Duncan production floor.
The flange on the end of the pickup mounts under a pickguard. I haven't mounted one myself, so maybe someone who has will chime in.
The sound was designed to be very transparent and let the natural timbre of the wood shine through. Remember, it was a pickup designed by a guitar builder (Bob Benedetto) who didn't want the sound of the pickup to distract from the beautiful acoustic sound of a Benedetto archtop guitar.

I'm new to forum participation ... not even sure I'm doing this right. But, just in case I am: My S6 pickup was designed by Seymour's chief engineer Kevin Beller.
Several years ago he and I worked very closely with all my pickup models. I told him what I wanted to hear .... he made samples then sent them to me to test. It didn't take long for Kevin to nail it.
The S6 was designed to simulate the voice of a well-made, mature acoustic archtop. As you add volume, it's as though the guitar is getting louder ... rather than transforming it's voice to that of an electric guitar.
Mounting it is very easy. The pickguard/fingerrest is cut as needed so the pickup centers on the strings. The side mounting flange is then screwed, super glued or epoxied to the underside of the pickguard/fingerrest.
Thanks all, I'm still having a hard time grasping onto what exactly these sound like on an archtop. In particular, I just bought a new Eastman AR810-CE. I'm curious to know what it would sound like with the S-6 vs the stock Korean Kent Armstrong.
I have a Benedetto S6 in my 1948 L7C. I would decribe the sound as woody, very acoustic but also smooth, preserving the acoustic tone of the guitar. If you compare it with a electric guitar pickups it is more in the realm of a P90 maybe with a tad less mids and bass, but more pick attack coming thru, with nice round highs.
